Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus Spotted on TENAA; to Launch on December 7

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi confirmed the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus launch in China on December 7. The company has sent out media invites and teased the smartphone in several images that confirm its design. Also, two Xiaomi devices with model numbers MDT1 and MDE1 were spotted in TENAA today, giving a rough idea about their design and specs.

Xiaomi has gained popularity and made record-breaking with the Redmi 4 series of budget phones consisting of Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, and Redmi Note 4. The successors of these devices will be the Redmi 5, Redmi 5A, and the Redmi Note 5, the most anticipated phone in this segment. The Xiaomi Redmi 5  and the Redmi 5 Plus are expected to come in Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, and Silver. The device has a sleek look on the front with less bezels, while the rear looks very similar to its predecessor, Redmi 4. The devices have a metal unibody and a fingerprint sensor at the rear. They measure 151.8 × 72.8 × 7.7 mm and weigh 157 g.

An Octa-core chipset will power the Redmi 5, clocked at 1.8 GHz, likely to be Snapdragon 450. According to top rumors, the Redmi 5 Plus will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, a far cry from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor in Redmi 4. The device will likely have three memory variants: 2 GB RAM + 16 GB internal storage, 3 GB RAM + 32 GB internal storage, and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. All three variants will have memory expandable options up to 128 GB with micro SD.
