Last year when MIUI 11 was released, it was pushed out in many patches. During the initial days, it was running on Android 9, but later, when Google released Android 10, Xiaomi devices were started getting MIUI 11 update based on Android 10. This time around with MIUI 12, we have seen something similar. Now Android 10 based MIUI 12 is running on eligible Xiaomi devices. However, we can expect that many of our Xiaomi Mi and Redmi devices will receive Android 11 with this MIUI build. Recently, Google has released Android 11’s stable version. So, we can expect to see it rolling out to our Xiaomi Mi and Redmi devices in phases.
So the question might arise in your mind as to what are the Xiaomi Mi and Redmi devices that will receive the Android 11? Let’s take a look into all that we know so far.

Release Date
Last year around when Google announced public beta testing of Android 10, Xiaomi was quick to include their two flagships of that time into the list, which included the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Mi Mix 3. This year we have the Mi 10/ Mi 10 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro/ Poco F2 Pro as the flagship offerings. After releasing Google’s Android 11, Xiaomi promised that three of its flagships: Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro and K30 Pro/ Poco F2 Pro users will get a chance to test the Beta Builds. Now, we can see that all of them have received Android 11 Stable Beta build.
Internal Android 11 beta tests for the Mi 10 Youth Edition, Redmi K30/ K30 5G/ K30i, Mi CC9 Pro/ Mi Note 10 lineup, Redmi K20/ Mi 9T series have also reportedly started. However, there is no confirmation regarding the public beta build release.
It looks, soon Xiaomi will include a bunch of their devices into the Android Beta program. But this won’t be a stable Android 11 based MIUI 12 update by any means though. The stable Android 11 rollout for Xiaomi phones may begin from October 2020.
Major software update policy
Xiaomi does not have a fixed policy for updates like other smartphone manufacturers. However, judging by their track record of older devices, we can make a deduction that, like Samsung, they also push out two significant updates.
The Mi and Max series devices from Xiaomi receive at least two major OS updates. Even the cheaper Mi series devices have a history of two significant updates. Along with the sister brand, Redmi from Xiaomi is like a separate entity now, and even they are releasing expensive flagship devices. Before, when Redmi was tied down under Xiaomi, they only launched cheap budget value for money devices. But now even they are most likely to push out two major OS updates to their devices.

There is a bunch of users out there with Redmi Note 7/ Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 8/ Note 8 Pro/ Note 8T, Mi A2/ Mi 6X and Pocophone F1/ Poco F1 devices, which are wondering whether they will receive the new Android 11 update. These devices are not included in the unofficial eligible list either, and there is a reason behind it. As mentioned above, Redmi pushes out, usually one major OS update. This time around after being independent, Redmi has launched some premium devices, and we expect them to receive the second-year update, but that is only for the premium Redmi devices. The budget or mid-range specialist Xiaomi devices will most probably continue on their culture of a singular OS update.

The Mi A2 is not going to receive Android 11. It already received 2 years of major software updates, and that’s the maximum for an Android One device (at least for the Mi A phones)

and Xiaomi Mi A2’s eligibility as belonging to Androidone program has expired that’s why it’s ineligible for the Android 11 update? let me know. thanks!
Előd Halász
Yes. With Android One, the phone gets two major OS updates, and it already got them. A.K.A. it was updated from A.8 to A.9 and from A.9 it got updated to A.10. That’s why it won’t get the Android 11.
