Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Getting MIUI 9 Android 8.0 Oreo Update; Close Beta Announced

One of the most beautiful smartphones of this year, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, was launched in October. The smartphone will receive a major Android 8.0 Oreo update as the Chinese smartphone manufacturer announced a beta build of MIUI 9 based on Android Oreo for Mi Mix 2 users on the MIUI forum. Xiaomi has already announced the Oreo update for the first Android One phone- Mi A1.

Xiaomi has revealed that it is going to be a closed beta program. This will mean only specific Mi Mix 2 users will be allowed to run this Android 8.0 Oreo update. Users may spot the bugs and glitches in the beta program till Xiaomi rolls out the final stable version of the update. The last date to apply for the beta program is December 24, and Xiaomi says that the eligible users will be selected by December 27. The user can head over to the Forum section of the Mi App and select the ‘Mi Mix 2’ to register. According to the post, interested users must select the “experience version” to receive the update. If you are qualified, your device will be updated.

The MIUI 9 will bring new features to the device, focusing on speed, fluency, and stability. It comes with dynamic resource allocation, prioritizing the resources the running app requires over the background process. Not only that, It comes with an Artificial Intelligence wave with a Smart Assistant to find anything and everything. There are customizable widgets, new notification settings, and a new image search functionality that brings natural language search and allows the user to search their photo gallery using keywords like people, locations, and expressions. Additionally, there is a new Smart app launcher; Split Screen features a new image editor and a new Mi Video app with automatic grouping, multilingual subtitles, and support for more video formats.
