Xiaomi Mi A2 Gets NCC Certification; Launch Could be Imminent

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi launched the Mi 6X in China in April 2018. The smartphone is yet to be launched outside China, where it will be renamed as Mi A2. We are getting closer than ever to the release of Xiaomi Mi 6X’s Global version, Mi A2. Recently, the smartphone has passed the National Communications Commission (NCC) certification with model number M1804D2SG. The NCC certification means the device will make it to Taiwan. But it is also expected in other markets like India. Even Xiaomi has started teasing its next global launch event through its official Twitter and asking its fans where they would like to go with Mi for a global event.

The listing does not make any specific mention of the Xiaomi Mi A2 name. Still, the similarities to the Chinese Version of Xiaomi Mi 6X (M1804D2SC) in the model number suggest that this is a new global offering, Mi A2.

The certification reveals that the Mi A2 suits Taiwan’s 4G frequency band 2600 MHz/1800 MHz/ 900 Mhz. Though it lacks a 700 MHz band, it has 3CA carrier aggregation. The NCC certification didn’t reveal any other specs. It should sport identical specs as the Mi 6X, but it will deliver stock Android OS instead of Xiaomi’s MIUI.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 will feature a 5.99-inch LCD with 1080p+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It will be powered by a Qualcomm 660 chipset clocked at 1.84 GHz, which will be coupled with 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. There is a circular fingerprint sensor at the rear.

The smartphone sports a dual camera setup like its predecessor, consisting of a 20 MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary 12 MP camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture. It offers a 20 MP camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the front. It will run on Android 8.1.0 Oreo and be backed by a 3010 mAh battery. The predecessor, Mi 5X/Mi A1, came with stock Android and will do the same this time.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X was announced in August, and the Xiaomi Mi A1 a month after. Judging by that time frame, the Mi 6X was launched in April, which means the Mi A2 will launch soon. The improved Mi A2 will give tough competition to those like the Honor 7X, the top competitor of the Mi A1.
