Xiaomi Launches Mi Mix 2 with No Bezels at Rs 35,999

Every smartphone maker is going after the “bezel-less” trend. While companies like Apple, LG, Samsung, and even Vivo have launched their almost no-bezel phones, Xiaomi has released its Mi Mix 2, one of the best smartphones to be launched this year.

Talking about the design, the look is gorgeous. The upper side and the sides have no bezel. A small bezel on the lower side accommodates the front camera, which gets awkward while taking photos or video calling. The Mi Mix 2 has a large screen, of 5.99-inch IPS LCD with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi claims a screen density of 403 ppi. The screen clarity and visuals are excellent with its Full HD+ (2160 x 1080) resolution. The device feels a little smaller Compared to its predecessor, Mi Mix. But it also makes the device easy to hold with one hand. Even the corners are visibly rounded.

Xiaomi has opted for a ceramic body for the device, creating many problems. First, it makes the phone more slippery. Secondly, it makes the phone very prone to damage. Because of any middle material, the phone will likely crack if it lands on its corner. It is not a very good choice for a bezel-less device, and users will not like to put a cover on it.

The phone has a 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 rear camera sensor with 1.25-micron pixels boasting 4-axis optical stabilization on the back and a fingerprint sensor. The camera is protruding out and has a golden rim with a dust and fingerprint magnet. The same goes for the back of the phone. The back camera performs well with new 4k video capture modes and optical stabilization. The low-light images are also decent, with the HDR capture helping with light exposure in dim environments. The camera app, however, is still the same. The front camera, however, disappoints. The phone has to be turned while taking a photo or in video calling, which gets pretty awkward. Also, the range of the front cam is relatively narrow, so users have to stretch their hands for a wide view.

In terms of performance, the device is a beast. The machine handles smoothly with the combination of Snapdragon 835 Soc and 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. You throw anything at it. The games perform well and can go toe to toe with the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is available at twice its size. The device runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. This time, we got Google Play Services pre-installed on the device, which was unavailable on its predecessor. Sound quality is pretty good thanks to its new earpiece speaker, which allows the user to hear any part of the screen or frame. However, we are stuck with a USB Type-C adapter as there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. The device is backed up by a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The battery performs well, considering its large and bright screen.

Xiaomi has launched only the 6GB RAM(128 GB memory)  variant in India, whereas the 8GB RAM variant is available in some countries. The Mi Mix 2 is priced at Rs 35,999. It will be available on Mi.com, Flipkart, all Mi Home stores, Mi Preferred Partner stores, and Large Format Retail Partners from the first week of November. The phone will also be available for a flash sale at Mi.com and Flipkart at noon on October 17.
