Google has added Venmo as a payment option on the Google Play Store, giving users in supported markets another way to pay for apps, games, and digital content.
Google announced the integration on August 10, saying users can now link their Venmo accounts directly to Google Play. The option lets users use their existing Venmo balance or a payment method linked to their Venmo account at checkout.
Venmo comes to Google Play checkout
According to Google, Venmo can be linked through the payment methods section of the Google Play Store. Once connected, users can select the digital wallet when making eligible purchases.
That covers more than app purchases. Google specifically lists games, subscriptions, and payments to creators among the use cases for the new payment option.
The change also means users who already rely on Venmo do not necessarily need to add another card directly to Google Play. Instead, Venmo becomes another layer between the Play Store checkout and the user’s underlying balance or linked payment method.
Another payment option for Play users
Google Play already supports multiple payment methods, but adding Venmo gives its US-focused digital storefront another familiar wallet option. For users who regularly keep money in Venmo, the integration could make smaller digital purchases and recurring payments more convenient.
There is also a social angle. Venmo’s existing wallet experience is built around payments between people and interactions with friends, while Google Play is primarily a digital-content marketplace. Bringing the two together extends Venmo into a different type of spending.
Google describes the integration as available starting August 10, 2026, although the announcement does not provide a detailed breakdown of country availability or which specific Play transactions may be excluded.
For Android users who already use Venmo, the practical change is straightforward: open Google Play’s payment methods, link the Venmo account, and use it when the option is available at checkout.
The bigger question is whether Google expands Venmo’s availability beyond its current rollout. That could determine whether the partnership remains a convenient option for a specific market or becomes part of Google Play’s broader payment ecosystem.
