Xiaomi recently announced the budget-friendly Mi A3. It tries to deliver the best in terms of software experience and camera performance at a price point of $279. However, there is an alternate option available in the market, that delivers the same at a cheaper price tag ($179.99). It is called the Umidigi X from the Chinese Smartphone manufacturers Umidigi. Now Umidigi is known for their aggressive pricing and the Umidigi X is no exception. So is the Umidigi X a better option as compared to the Mi A3? Let’s take a look at the review with pros and cons and find out for ourselves.
Umidigi X Pros Review
The latest in-display fingerprint scanner
With more and more brands moving towards in-display fingerprint scanners, they are becoming more and more mainstream. That’s why we see in-display fingerprint scanners even on budget devices and not only the flagships. The Umidigi X comes with the latest generation in-display fingerprint scanner, which makes unlocking real quick and safe. As compared to normal fingerprint scanners in-display fingerprint scanners are a bit slow, but this is the fastest you are getting with the Umidigi X.
Capable Triple camera setup
As we saw most of the flagships and even mid-range devices get their hands on the 48MP IMX586 sensor, Umidigi X does not loose on that too despite the low price tag. We see an 8MP wide-angle camera to go with the 48MP primary and a 5MP depth sensor for those bokeh effects on portrait shots. All in all, it is a complete camera package and the best in this price segment.
It is almost a given now that a smartphone having a price tag higher than $500 should have an AMOLED panel. But in recent times we have seen even mid-range and lower mid-range devices come equipped with an AMOLED panel. In comparison to an IPS panel, AMOLED panels just provide better contrast and make the viewing experience a really pleasant one. Most recently we saw the $279 Mi A3 come with an AMOLED panel, which was a shock to many. But now to see the $179 Umidigi X equip an AMOLED panel, just seems too good to be even true. For the price, this is an absolute steal.
Big battery with fast charging
Umidigi did not hold back in the battery department either as we see a 4150 mAh battery with an 18W fast charging adapter out of the box. This will let you top up the device much quicker than the standard 10W adapter and looking at the size of the battery, a full charge should easily last you more than a day.
Umidigi X Cons Review
We see even budget phones come with FHD+ resolution nowadays. But if you see an AMOLED panel on a device under $200, the cut back had to be made somewhere. Unfortunately, with Umidigi X, we only see an HD+ resolution display. Now if you already own a device with an FHD+ or QHD+ resolution, you will surely spot the difference and you won’t like it.
The Helio P60 has been around for a while now and even though it is a capable processor, it is not winning any prizes in the graphics department. The GPU on this processor is just not that good enough to play games like PUBG and Asphalt 8 without any lag. If you are not a gamer, this should not bother you. But if you do enjoy a little bit of PUBG time now and then, then this device will let you down with the occasional lags and overheating.
Should You Buy Umidigi X?
Despite the cons, looking at the overall package it is really hard to recommend the Mi A3 over the Umidigi X. If you can make a compromise on the gaming front, then hands down the Umidigi X beats the Mi A3 in all departments. Rather than paying an extra few bucks for the Mi A3, and if you have a tight budget then Umidigi X is the way to go. You can get the”Upods TWS Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless Earphone” to go with the Umidigi X at a really low price to sweeten the deal. Sale of the Umidigi X started from August 26 and is available for purchase at $179.99 from Aliexpress.
