When Will the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Be Launched?

The Snapdragon Tech Summit 2024 dates are official. As always, the annual event will take place from October 21 to October 23 in Hawaii. Qualcomm will announce the next flagship mobile chipset. The main highlight of the show will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

To those unaware, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be the company’s latest and greatest powerful processor to be used inside the smartphones. It is the successor of the previous 8 Gen 3 SoC. Significant Android OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Oppo have used that processor (8 Gen 3) in their smartphones. It will also be no different with the new forthcoming chipset.

Qualcomm chipsets are usually made from the TSMC’s node architecture. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be based on the same 3nm ‘N3E’ process node as the predecessor. However, the core’s placement or utilization is somewhat different now.

The previous chipset offers a 1 + 3 + 4 design. It consists of one prime core, three performance cores, and four efficiency cores. However, this time, there will be no efficiency cores. Yes, you heard it right. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will likely feature a 2 + 6 layout design. It will likely have two prime cores and six performance cores, leaving no space for efficiency cores. This is based on Oryon CPU cores.

From the above analysis, it is visible that the company is aiming at a truly performance-targeted processor instead of partially aiming for efficiency. However, there will be some other factors causing the chip to perform efficiently and increase the battery lifespan. Still, we don’t know how Qualcomm will achieve that level of efficiency when they are solely targeting performance.

In addition, Apple’s recent event has put pressure on the company to target performance as much as possible. This is because Apple’s performance with their M4 chipset is way higher than any competition. Also, there were rumors that Qualcomm will upscale the clock speed from 4GHz to 4.26GHz as a result of the Apple launch event effect.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Launch Date

  • The company will unveil the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Mobile Processor during the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2024 between October 21 and October 23.

Keeping that aside, the leaks suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will score 3000 scores and 10000 scores in single-core and multi-score, respectively, in Geekbench. On top of that, the company will likely upgrade the GPU architecture, again aiming towards the peak performance level. We can see improvement in the cache and memory compression to deliver good outputs.

Some leaks suggest that the upcoming chipset can run the strongest and resource-hungry game (Genshin Impact) smoothly for around 45 minutes, with a stable frame rate, which is a very good thing. The upcoming smartphones like the Galaxy S25 series (tweaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy), OnePlus 13, Vivo X series, iQOO 13, Xiaomi 15, and Oppo Find X8 series will rush towards launching their smartphones, powering the new chipset.

Since the company targets the new chipset solely on the basis of performance, we have to wait and see how the respective smartphones will perform, especially in the battery department. In addition, we have to see how well they balance the heat with the performance because as the performance increases, the device requires heavy resources, and thus, heat evolves.
