Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus Gets Android 8.0 Oreo Update in India

Sony India on Thursday announced the rollout of Android 8.0 Oreo update for its two mid-range smartphones, Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus smartphones, on their official Twitter page. The two smartphones were exclusively launched for the Indian market last year in October, and also confirmed the Oreo update for both of the devices.

The update comes in OTA (Over the Air) form and contains build number S00111_180224. The update started rolling out last week, and after installing, many users have complained about issues like app crashes and touch unresponsiveness. If any user has not yet received the update, they can manually check by going to Settings > About Phone > System update. However, users are requested to back up their data before installing it to prevent any data loss.

The new update brings the Oreo features to both these smartphones which include Picture-in-picture (Pip) mode, Notification dot, Smart Autofill, new redesigned Quick Settings menu, faster boot time and also contains the latest security patch. Along with this, the users of both smartphones will be getting features like Xperia Actions, which is an intelligent service that suggests actions based on interaction with games and apps on the smartphones, contextual menus for app shortcuts, reminders for unfinished emails, and other tasks.

Among the problems, users are complaining about the Wi-Fi SSD issue, the crashing of many third-party apps, the inability to download media content from WhatsApp, and issues in the Google Play Store showing it as uncertified. The company needs to address these bugs quickly and fix them with an update. As for users, the best you can do is to do a factory reset of your smartphone, which may resolve several issues, and then wait.

The Xperia R1 and R1 Plus are currently priced at Rs 12,990 and 14,900 respectively.
