The Galaxy S24 Ultra is wonderful in many ways, but what it pulled off within the display department is just extraordinary. It not only got the basics right but solved the common issue of glare to a great extent as well. And that definitely made a very good impression on users. At least, that was the case up until now.
Oleophobic coating on the Galaxy S24 Ultra aging poorly?
Some reports have started emerging online, claiming that the coating on the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s display has already started wearing off, not even a year after launch.
YouTuber Zaryab Khan posted about this issue a couple of days ago on X (formerly Twitter). When asked if the damage was from scratches from sharp objects like keys, he stated that that was not the case and that this damage was “flushed in with the coating.”
Some people in the comments seem to have the same problem as well. Digging a bit deep, we found out that this kind of wear is not recent. People were facing similar issues as early as March or April of this year. This entire situation has left users disappointed.

Reason for wearing unclear
While the wearing off of these kinds of coatings is not unheard of, it is not usually this fast, especially on such expensive devices. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has not even crossed the one-year mark of its release.
Besides, some of the damage almost resembles scratches, but the display remains unscathed. This seems to have no explanation yet. Whatever the reason may be, this is not the kind of experience users expect when paying such a hefty amount for a smartphone. The company has also not released any statement regarding this matter, so that is also a bummer.
Do note that, for now, the problem does not seem to be widespread. Many users in the comments of the above-linked posts claim that their unit has held up very well. But regardless, it is concerning that this issue exists. We expect Samsung to come out with an explanation, along with some kind of compensation for affected users, soon.
