Qualcomm’s next flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, has started showing up in benchmarking databases. Early signs suggest it’s a serious jump over the previous generation, though with caveats. Here’s a breakdown of the latest leaks.
What the Leaks Say about Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
- A Xiaomi device (codename 25113PN0EC, believed to be Xiaomi 17) appeared on Geekbench with this chip.
- It had 16 GB RAM and was running Android 16.
- The latest leaked Geekbench benchmark scores:
- Single-Core: 3705
- Multi-Core: 11228
Clock speeds reportedly include prime cores at ~ 4.61 GHz and other “performance” cores around ~ 3.63 GHz. GPU is expected to be Adreno 840, RAM types likely LPDDR5X.
How It Compares with Other Flagship SOCS
- Compared to the previous-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite, this is a solid performance boost. Single-core is up by maybe ~15-25%, same with multi-core.
- It appears to be closing the gap with Apple’s A-series chips (A19 Pro, etc.) in single-core performance. In some testing, it matches or comes very close to Apple’s latest A19 Pro in multi-core score.
Speculated / Known Specs of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
From the leaks and what Qualcomm has teased:
- Process Node: Likely TSMC 3nm (N3P) for better efficiency and performance.
- CPU Architecture: 8-core “Oryon” design (2 prime cores + 6 performance cores) is expected.
- GPU: Adreno 840.
- Memory: 16 GB in tested units; RAM type likely LPDDR5X or higher.
- Software: Android 16 in the tested leaks.
We did a write-up on earlier leaks in April 2025; some of them came true, like the use of a 3nm node.
Note: This section is not 100% confirmed, so take it with a pinch of salt.
Closing thoughts
This chip is shaping up to be Qualcomm’s big push to reclaim bragging rights in the Android performance game. If the chip delivers close to the upper end of what we’re seeing in these leaks, several flagship phones later this year will be very compelling.
That said, benchmarks are just one part of the story. How it performs in the real world (thermals, battery, software optimizations) will be what ultimately matters. Also, if rivals (MediaTek, Samsung, etc.) push strong offerings, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will need more than just high single-core numbers to stand out.
