Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Chipset

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Chipset for Mid-Range 5G Phones is on the Way

Qualcomm started a new naming theme for its 700 and 800 Series chips. The first chip to adopt this new naming theme is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, followed by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. The naming theme also enters the 600 series, starting with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. This article will talk about the launch date and features of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will replace the Snapdragon 695 as its successor. It will be a lower mid-range chipset that will bring incremental improvements over the Snapdragon 695. It will improve the poor ISP and bring 4K video support. It could be an excellent 5G chipset for the lower mid-range category.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Features

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is the next generation of Qualcomm’s mid-range mobile processors. A complete spec sheet for the processor has been leaked, revealing significant improvements over the previous generation. Thanks to tech tipster Evan Blass, we know the specifications of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1. This chipset will be the successor to the Snapdragon 695. First of all, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is said to have the part number SM6450. Again, it will be based on TSMC’s 4nm node.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will have a Qualcomm Kryo CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.2 GHz and an Adreno GPU. To accompany this, it supports up to UFS 3.1 storage and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM up to 2750 MHz.

As for connectivity, it will feature the Snapdragon X62 5G modem with support for 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands. You get the latest Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 can handle displays with FHD+ resolution at 120Hz. For instance, this is the same as its predecessor, the Snapdragon 695. Support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology is also worth mentioning.

Furthermore, there is an appreciable improvement in the camera department. The new lower mid-range chip supports a triple camera setup with 13MP, a dual (25MP + 16MP) setup, and a 48MP single camera. Plus, it can capture photos with a resolution of up to 108MP. Thankfully, it supports 4K video recording at 30FPS. It can also record slo-mo videos at 270p resolution @ 240 FPS.

When will the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 launch?

While there is no official information on the launch date, it is speculated that Qualcomm will likely launch the processor alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at this year’s Snapdragon Summit. We will surely see many OEMs launching smartphones powered by this chip, just like its predecessor.
