On May 8, Sharp announced its flagship smartphone, “Sharp Aquos R3”, in Tokyo, and it will be released after the early summer of 2019. The most prominent feature of the Smartphone is the “Pro IGZO” display of approximately 6.2 inches. The Pro IGZO display achieves 1 billion colours of expression, can faithfully reproduce HDR images and gradations and supports smooth display driven at 120 Hz.
Sharp Aquos R3 Specifications & Features
The Smartphone is equipped with an “AI live story” function that AI extracts highlight spots while creating video and automatically creates a digest movie of about 15 seconds. It shoots photos with less subject blur with optimal shutter speed and image processing in line with subject motion.
The Aquos R3 has dual notches present at the top and bottom. The top-notch houses a front-facing camera, while a fingerprint sensor is present at the bottom notch.
The Smartphone measures 156 × 74 × 8.9 mm and weighs about 185 grams. It comes in five colours: Premium Black, Platinum White, Elegant Green, Pink Amethyst, and Luxury Red. The Pro IGZO display measures 6.2 inches. It produces a QHD+ resolution of 3, 120 x 1, 440 pixels and an aspect ratio of 9:19.5
The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform (Octa-core: Kryo 485 (up to 2.8 GHz) × 4 + Kryo 485 (up to 1.7 GHz) × 4) drives the Sharp AQUOS R3 along with 6 GB of RAM. The device includes an internal storage of 128 GB, and it is equipped with a microSD card slot. The device is pre-installed with Android 9 Pie OS, and it receives power from a 3,200 mAh battery. It supports Qi (11W) wireless charging technology.
The camera has a dual camera consisting of about 12.2 megapixels (f/1.7 aperture), CMOS image sensors for still images and about 20.1 megapixels (f/2.4 aperture) CMOS image sensors for moving pictures at the rear, and about 16.3 megapixels (f/2.0 aperture) CMOS image sensors at the front.
Biometric authentication corresponds to face authentication and fingerprint authentication. The enhanced multimedia experience on the AQUOS R3 features Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Availability & Pricing
The Sharp Aquos R3 will be launched in the Japanese market after the summer of 2019. They are expected to be sold by mobile phone companies such as NTT DoCoMo, au and SoftBank. As of now, there is no information on the pricing of the R3. Also, the company did not reveal any details on whether any other market apart from Japan will be receiving the Smartphone.
