Samsung has reportedly high expectations for its Galaxy S25 series and foldable phones in 2025. According to a report from The Elec, the company will produce 37 million units of the Galaxy S25 series and 7 million foldable phones in 2025.
Galaxy S25 series targets higher production numbers
Samsung will reportedly announce its upcoming Galaxy S25 series at its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22, 2025. The series will include three models: Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. The production target for the Galaxy S25 series is said to be 37 million units, which is 2 million more than the production number for the Galaxy S24 series this year.
Presumably, the Galaxy S25 series will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor globally as it decided to move away from its Exynos chips. It appears Samsung is expecting more demand for the new series, and they agreed on higher production. The reason could be the global adoption of the Snapdragon chip in the S25 lineup, and One UI 7.0 UI with new Galaxy AI features.
Samsung’s foldable phones are still a niche market
Samsung will reportedly produce 7 million foldable phones (including older models) in 2025. These also include the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Z Flip FE, and Z Fold 7 models. Of the total, Z Flip 7 will be 3 million, Z Flip FE will be 900,000, and Z Fold 7 will be 2 million units.
Despite being the leader in the foldable phone market, Samsung is struggling to increase sales of these phones. High prices and competition from Chinese brands are the main reasons why foldable phones are not appealing to a wider audience.
Conclusion
Samsung’s higher production target for the Galaxy S25 series could be part of its plan to regain footing in the competitive smartphone market. Samsung expects the Galaxy S25 series to be moderate success in the flagship segment. But the overall smartphone production target for 2025 is 229.4 million units, down from an earlier estimate of 237 million.
That’s a more conservative approach, given the slowing global smartphone sales. But, Samsung is confident it can generate more revenue in 2025 with premium pricing on its flagships.
It will be interesting to see if the Galaxy S25 series and foldable phones meet these targets.
