Samsung June 2023 Security Update

Samsung June 2023 Security Update Rolling out for Several Galaxy Devices

Samsung is one of the few smartphone manufacturers that deliver quality software updates, that too on time. It is one of the only three Android brands that provide major OS upgrades to their phones for as long as four years, along with five years of security patches. That is even longer than what Google offers for its Pixel phones.

As June has started, Samsung has started rolling out the June 2023 security update to several of its Galaxy devices.

What to expect in the June 2023 update?

First of all, this update will bump your security patch level to that of this month (June 2023). However, this is not just for the namesake. Each month, Google lists several Android issues in the Android Security Bulletin. The security update of that month addresses all those issues.

Similarly, Google pointed out fifty-three security flaws in Android on the bulletin for this month. Three were classified as critical issues, while the remaining fifty were highly important. The June 2023 security update from Samsung also addresses eleven security issues exclusive to Galaxy devices. The details of those can be found here. It should be noted that three of the fifty security flaws marked as highly important did not apply to Samsung devices.

Several Galaxy devices have started getting the update

As of today, that is, the 8th of June, the devices that have received the update in some regions are the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy A23, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52s, and Galaxy A53. This shows how consistent Samsung is in providing updates to lower-end models and older flagships.

In the next week or two, other eligible Galaxy phones will get the update soon.

How to check if your Galaxy device has received the update?

Your device usually pushes out a notification whenever an update is available. However, if you still want to check for the update, you can do so in the Settings app. Just scroll down to the bottom and see the Software Update section. Tap on Download and Install, and your device will tell you whether it has received the update. If the update is available, you can download and install it immediately or schedule it for later.
