Samsung Galaxy S6 Series to Get Android 8.0 Oreo Update

Recently, after the 2017 Samsung S8 flagship series got the Oreo update, it seems the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge +, and Note 5 will also be getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update. This latest information is from the Manufacturer developer page on T-Mobile’s official website, which says that” the device manufacturer has agreed to support new software update.”

This is not the first time Android Oreo has been rumored for the Samsung S6 flagship series. Previously, there were several reports, particularly in the last two months, where Samsung customer care reps confirmed that the Oreo update would roll out this month. Also, folks from XDA published a list of Samsung devices that may receive the Oreo update based on a deep look at the firmware files of the leaked Android Oreo beta for the Galaxy Note 8. The XML files pointed to several code names, which hint the company is experimenting with the new Android version in their old smartphones. The smartphones mentioned above were notably absent from the list. Also, the support pages contain the tag “Phase: Complete.” This may suggest that testing is finished and the updates are ready to roll out.

This new update is great news for owners who want a slice of Oreo experience in their old smartphones. Also, it is worth mentioning that the users will get two more years of Samsung support, which means they may also get updated to the next Android version. This gives a new edge to the Samsung smartphone compared to the other premium ones.

The company has no official word yet, so we don’t know whether the smartphones will also get the Samsung Experience 9.0, which contains a new keyboard, updated Bixby, screen color customizations, and more.
