Samsung Galaxy J2 2017 Edition Launched: Specs, Features, Price & Availability

South Korean tech giant Samsung has released a new device, Samsung Galaxy J2 2017 edition earlier this week. The phone is launched under the budget category and most likely to target the Diwali customers. Samsung didn’t host any media event for launching the new device. Instead, the device was put on the official Samsung India website with specs. However, there is no word on the official price and availability. However Mumbai-based offline retailer Mahesh Telecom claims the price will be around Rs 7,390.

The new Samsung Galaxy J2 comes with 4.7-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of (960 x 540 Pixels). Now the previous edition Galaxy J2 2016 featured a 5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive display. Maybe the screen size is reshaped to fit in hand properly. The dimensions of the device are 136.5 x 69.0 x 8.4mm and weigh 130 g. The device will be available in two colour variants: Metallic Gold and Absolute Black.

The main device features are the Indian focused features like Smart Manager and Ultra Data Saving Mode. This app saves a lot of data. The phone comes with 4G VoLTE support and basic connectivity like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, GLONASS and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The device is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor along with 1 GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. The memory may be expanded to 128GB with a micro-SD card. Despite those Indian-centric features if the device costs get more than Rs 5000 the specs will be considered disappointing. Because there are currently lots of smartphones in this segment offering much higher specs than this device.

Coming back to its features, the device hosts a 5MP autofocus rear camera with LED Flash, a f/2.2 aperture that supports 720p HD video recording and a 2MP front-facing camera with a f/2.4 aperture for selfies and video calling. Another drawback is its 2000mAh battery which looks pretty ordinary. But with a price tag of around Rs 5k, the device could compete with the likes of Intex Aqua Star, InFocus M370, and Micromax Canvas Spark 3 which features batteries from 2000mAh-2500mAh.

As we have stated earlier, all depends on the price tag on the device. Samsung will try to capture the budget category. All the features of the Samsung Galaxy J2 2017 are perfect for capturing this segment the of the market. The details of price and availability are expected to be released soon.
