Last week, a Samsung smartphone with model number SM-G8850 aka Galaxy A9 Star was certified by TENAA and later a hands-on video of the smartphone surfaced online revealing a Full-Screen Infinity display with minimal bezels and a dual camera setup with LED flash stacked in a vertical arrangement in the top left corner, accompanied by a ‘squarish’ fingerprint sensor at the middle.
Today the Samsung Galaxy A9 Star has been certified by Taiwan’s National Communications (NCC)’s website. It is spotted with model number SM- G885Y/DS, which hints to the Dual SIM feature of the phone. The smartphone confirms the previous leak of dual rear camera setup with the fingerprint sensor. The phone is also expected to sport a glass back. The device seems to come with a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port. The NCC certification also suggests a pair of earphone will come bundled along with a wall adapter and USB Type-C cable. The power button and volume rocker are placed on the left side while there is a third button on the right which we expect to be Bixby assistant button.
From the TENNA list, we knew the smartphone’s AMOLED infinity Display is of 6.2 inches with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset clocked at 2.2 GHz coupled with 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM.
In the back, the dual cameras are of 16MP + 24 MP configuration while the front is a 24MP one. The smartphone will be IP68 certified dust, and water resistant and will run Android Oreo out of the box. It will be backed by a 3,700 mAh battery with support for fast charging. It will be available in Blue and Black colour variants.
Currently, there is no word about the pricing or launch date, but the appearance hints the launch will be in upcoming weeks. We can expect the South Korean manufacturer to drop a teaser soon.
