Updated on 22/09/2020: Samsung Galaxy A42 5G was announced during the ‘Life Unstoppable’ event and will be released later this year. Samsung did not reveal the complete specifications of the Galaxy A42 5G. In the source code of the Galaxy A42’s benchmark (Model: SM-A426B), we can see SoC details (See Orginal Story Section). These specs match with the recently announced Snapdragon 750G chipset. So, we conclude that Samsung Galaxy A42 will be equipped with Snapdragon 750G chipset.
Original Story (Published on August 8, 2020) follows
SamMobile first confirmed Samsung Galaxy A42’s existence at the end of June. It will be the company’s first budget 5G phone that will carry model number SM-A426B. The phone is said to debut next year.
Recently, a Samsung device SM-A426B, which is believed to be the Galaxy A42 5G, was spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking platform. As per the Geekbench listing, the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G scored 615 points in the single-core test, while in the multi-core test, the device scored 1,799 points. Furthermore, we can also see mentions of Android 10 OS and 4GB of RAM.
From the listing, it is clear that it will run on Qualcomm’s octa-core processor with a base frequency of 1.80 GHz. There are speculations that the Galaxy A42 5 G’s chipset may be the Snapdragon 690, but the benchmark source code suggests it is a different chipset, which could be the overclocked version of the Snapdragon 690.
When we accessed the source code of the benchmark listing, we found its CPU core configuration, Clock Speed, and GPU name as follows:
- CPU: 2 Core @ 2.21 GHz + 6 Core @ 1.80 GHz
- GPU: Adreno 619
With Snapdragon 690, we get two Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and Six Cortex-A56 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz. In terms of GPU, we see Adreno 619L.
So, Galaxy A42 5 G’s CPU core configuration and GPU partially match with the Snapdragon 690 chipset, such as its core arrangement and GPU name.
On Galaxy A42 5 G’s chipset, we have noticed the GPU name Adreno 619 (without “L”) and a similar core arrangement(2+6) but with overclocked speeds(2.21 GHz and 1.80 GHz).
So, we can say that Samsung Galaxy A42 5G could be equipped with an overclocked Snapdragon 690 processor (Snapdragon 690G?). We have also seen the same thing with Snapdragon 765G. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G is just an overclocked 765 with a 20% boost to graphics performance.
Additionally, to offer even better performance, Qualcomm announced a high-frequency version of Snapdragon 765G, dubbed Snapdragon 768G, that offers up to 15% faster graphics rendering than 765G. So, there is a possibility that an overclocked Snapdragon 690 chipset may arrive with a different naming scheme instead of 690G.
Separately, Tipster Digital Chat Station has also said via a tweet that Qualcomm is planning to launch a new chipset, which will be the high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 690.

Coming to the rest of the specs, the 3C Certification listing revealed that the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G will be backed by a 4860 mAh (Rated) battery. It is expected that the typical capacity will be 5000 mAh. Other specs are still unknown. We can expect more details will be surfaced online in the coming weeks.
