Redmi Note 9S Could be a Rebranded Note 9 Pro for Global Markets

Xiaomi Malaysia has announced via its Facebook page that the Redmi Note 9S is launching on March 23, 2020. Xiaomi has already released two mid-range smartphones in India, namely, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. So, it was expected that the upcoming Note 9S would be a new member of the Note 9 family. But, NBTC certification reveals that the Redmi Note 9 Pro will make its way to global markets as the Redmi Note 9S.

Today, we have spotted Redmi Note 9S on Thailand’s NBTC certification website with model number M2003J6A1G. For the Indian market, the Redmi Note 9 Pro’s model number was M2003J6A1I. Redmi Note 9S will also carry the same model number, M2003J6A1G (except the last letter I) for Global Markets. So, Xiaomi is rebranding the Redmi Note 9 Pro to the Redmi Note 9S outside India.

Recently, the Redmi Note 9S has also been spotted on the Geekbench 5 website, which reveals the device has 6GB RAM, Android 10, and an 8-core Qualcomm processor. It scored 571 points in the single-core performance test and 1780 points in the multi-core performance test. These scores are identical to that of the Redmi Note 9 Pro. There is “curtana” mentioned in the motherboard field, which is also the codename of the recently announced Redmi Note 9 Pro smartphone. So, Geekbench also shows the same specs as the Note 9 Pro, hinting the two devices are the same.

Talking about the specifications, the Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ LCD DotDisplay with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It has an Octa-Core Snapdragon 720G 8nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 618 GPU under the hood. The device packs a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture on the rear. A 5020mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging powers the device. The phone has Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue, and Glacier White color options. It has two memory variants: 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
