MediaTek has unveiled 2021’s flagship chipset dubbed Dimensity 1200 to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870/888 and Samsung’s Exynos 2100/1080. We have already seen several phones with Dimensity 1000/1000+ processor. Now, Smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Realme etc are planning to add Dimensity 1200 powered 5G devices to their portfolio.
MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Processor
Dimensity 1200 is an octa-core CPU built on a 6nm node. It packs a single ultra-core Arm Cortex-A78 with frequency up to 3GHz for extreme performance and three Arm Cortex-A78 (up to 2.6GHz) Super cores. The remaining four cores are Arm Cortex-A55 (clocked at 2GHz) for efficiency. It has a nine-core Mali-G77 GPU with HyperEngine 3.0 gaming technology. The latest SoC will offer up to 22% faster CPU and 25% better power-efficiency compared to the predecessor.
Dimensity 1200 packs an integrated 5G modem with the company’s UltraSave technology. It supports sub-6GHz, Dual 5G SIM, 2CC carrier aggregation and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). The SoC has a five-core HDR-ISP that can capture 200MP photos and 4K HDR video capture. There are several AI camera features which include AI Multi-Person Bokeh, AI-Panorama Night Shot, and AI noise reduction etc. It comes with support for ultra-fast 168Hz display refresh rates.

A new report via Androidcentral claims that OnePlus is planning to launch its OnePlus Nord successor smartphone in Q2 2021. The phone will arrive in the market with the moniker OnePlus Nord 2. The Nord 2 is said to feature MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC.
Blackview is a Hong Kong-based Smartphone company known for its stellar rugged smartphones. They will bring a rugged phone called Blackview BL8000 with the 6nm Dimensity 1200 chipset. It will have 12 GB RAM.
Ulefone has confirmed via a teaser poster that their upcoming rugged phone “Armor 12” will launch in June 2021 with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200. Furthermore, the device will arrive with a 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option.
Realme has also said that they will soon release their first Dimensity 1200 chipset powered smartphone in the market. It is believed the upcoming device will be called Realme X9 Pro.
Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is also preparing a gaming phone with the MediaTek’s flagship SoC. Redmi’s General Manager Mr Lu Weibing via Weibo has confirmed the same. However, it is still unclear whether Redmi gaming phone will come under upcoming K40 series or completely different series.
