OPPO F5 Launched with a Massive Screen and AI Camera: Price, Specifications

After months of teasing and promotions, OPPO has finally revealed the OPPO F5 in the Philippines, and to be honest, the device looks spectacular with an almost no bezel-less display like the Galaxy Note 8 but available at a fraction of its price.

OPPO F5 is the successor of F3 Plus, launched in India earlier this year. The new OPPO has been equipped with all the latest tech in display and camera facilities. It features a sleek, unibody metal design that gives a premium look. The device sports a fully immersive screen and is one of the first devices in the company’s F series to sport an 18:9 aspect ratio. Because of its massive screen, the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back of the device, almost like the newly announced OnePlus 5T. It will be available in three color variants: Black, Red, and Gold.

The new OPPO F5 boasts a 6-inch FHD+ (1080×2160) 2.5D curved display, which makes it OPPO’s first full-screen device. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T chipset clocked at 2.2GHz, along with ARM Mali G71 MP2 800MHz GPU in the graphics department. The device is available in two memory variants:  4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of inbuilt storage. Both variants have expandable memory of up to 256 GB via a micro SD card.

The OPPO’s F smartphone series is selfie-centric, and the device stays true to its roots. It sports a 16 MP  with f/1.8 aperture sensor on the back with LED flash and a massive 20 MP with f/2.0 aperture sensor on the front. Now, the front camera has an AI-enabled beauty technology that we have only seen in smartphones like the Pixel 2 and Huawei Mate 10 series. OPPO says, “With more than 200 positioning spots, the F5 accentuates your facial landmarks and contours to enhance the symmetry between features like your eyes, nose, cheekbones, and jawline to create the perfectly refined and natural selfie. Its beauty-iris tool ensures your eyes shine brighter in any photo.” This technology was made in conjunction with professional photographers and make-up artists and can emulate the skills of professional photographers. The camera can recognize the intensity and the source to add more or reduce light to enhance the selfie experience. Not only that, we can also shoot photos with the Bokeh effect, a.k.a. Portrait effect. But interestingly, the front camera has no LED, which is a must on a selfie-centric device.

The device runs on Android 7.11 Nougat but may get the Oreo update. It will feature face unlock and a Triple SIM slot tray (dual nano and microSD). Backed by a 3,200 mAh battery, OPPO claims that with its Continuous Optimizing technology, users should be able to get 12 hours of continuous use on the smartphone. Connectivity options include GPS/ A-GPS, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11  a/b/g/n and USB OTG support. The device is available in the Philippines for PHP 15,990 (Rs 20,000 approx). It will be available in other markets like India, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam later in November. The device will debut in India on November 2. Interestingly, Xiaomi is also set to release a selfie-centric device on November 2.
