Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched the OPPO A79 in their home market. The device was previously spotted on TENNA along with the OPPO A73. Last month OPPO has launched the selfie-centric smartphone, the OPPO F5 in India. The OPPO A79 is a downgraded version of the F5 having a slightly smaller battery and a different selfie camera sensor. However, the looks remain the same as the F5.
The OPPO A79 comes with a premium all-metal unibody design with its antenna bands placed on the edges at the rear. As previously stated the device is almost bezel-free and flaunts an 18:9 aspect ratio display. The device contains a fingerprint sensor at the rear. Like the OPPO F5, the A79 also carries the facial recognition feature though we can’t expect to be accurate as Apple’s Face ID yet. The device measures 157.3 x 76 x 7.2 mm, and weigh 140 grams.
The OPPO A79 sports a massive 6.01 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 (full HD+) pixels and a pixel density of 401ppi. Under the hood, there is an Octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz. The device offers 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal memory which can be expanded upto 128 GB with a micro SD card. The OPPO A79 comes in three colour variants: black, champagne gold and blue.
The optics department features a 16 MP rear camera sensor an aperture of f/1.8 and a 5P lens while the front offers a similar 16 MP camera sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 5P lens for selfies and video calling. The device runs Color OS 3.2 on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with support from VOOC fast charging technology that OPPO invented. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB Type C port and support for dual SIM.
The device has certain design similarities with the OPPO R11S, but the A79 contains only a single camera sensor compared to the dual cameras on the R11S. Also, the OPPO A79 feels inferior in terms of specifications. The device is priced at RMB 2,399 (Rs 23,500 approx) which makes it a bit costlier than the OPPO F5. The device will be available for sale in China from December 1. There is no word about the device’s release in the Indian market.
