Oppo A72 5G May Come With Upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC

Oppo is preparing a new mid-range 5G smartphone called A72 5G with model PDYM20. The device has been spotted on TENAA and China Telecom website, which reveals complete specs and pricing details. The Oppo A72 5G will have an unknown MediaTek MT6853 SoC.

Today, the device is also listed on the Geekbench 5 platform, which confirms MT6853 SoC’s existence. The listing also shows its maximum CPU clock speed as 2.0 GHz and GPU name as Mali-G57.

Reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station said that MT6853 will likely be called Dimensity 720. Now, we also believe the same, as we have spotted images of the Dimensity 720 chipset on MediaTek’s official website under the title “With MediaTek Dimensity, Expect Incredible”. But the listing has since been taken down. However, we were able to take screenshots of the upcoming Dimensity 720 chipset.

Since we will see ARM’s Mali-G57 GPU, which targets mid-range chipset and CPU clock speed of up to 2.0 GHz, it is possible that the upcoming Oppo A72 5G may arrive with Dimensity 720 SoC. This could be MediaTek’s answer to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 690 5G chip, whose prime core is also clocked at 2.0 GHz.

Regarding its leaked specifications, the Oppo A72 5G has a 6.5-inch punch-hole IPS LCD panel that offers Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels). We get Android 10 OS along with the ColorOS on top of it. It is backed by a 4,040 mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. Regarding imaging, the A72 5G sports an 8MP selfie camera and a 16MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera module at the back inside a square-shaped camera system. It also features a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

As far as pricing is concerned, the Oppo A72 5G 4GB + 128GB storage variant will cost 1,699 Yuan (roughly Rs 18,300). Its 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB storage variants are priced at 1,799 Yuan (roughly Rs. 19,400) and 1,999 Yuan (roughly Rs. 21,600), respectively. Color options include Oxygen Purple, Neon Purple, and Simple Black.
