About the OnePlus Nord Keyboard

Design and Key Layout

OnePlus talks about a double gasket design for this new product, which they claim is highly optimized for gaming and work purposes. They have also clarified that they have not tried to keep the keyboard quiet. Instead, they focused on making the typing sound calm and satisfying.

While the company has not shared any images of the final product yet, we have some leaks (via MySmartPrice), which give an idea of how the final product will look.

The OnePlus Nord Keyboard has no dedicated number keys on the right side. We can see a rotatory encoder knob towards the upper right. In addition, the image also shows the OnePlus Nord branding near the bottom left corner of the keyboard.

Build

On the official web page of the keyboard, it is stated that it will have an aluminum body with an ‘aerolite’ touch, as OnePlus calls it, to provide a premium and lightweight experience.

Compatibility

OnePlus has clarified that the Nord Keyboard will work immensely well for macOS, MS Windows OS, and Linux. Moreover, it will have USB Type-C and USB Type-A ports and support for Bluetooth 5.2. This means that users can use the keyboard through a wired connection or wirelessly.

Customizations Options

Once again, OnePlus has confirmed on the official web page for this keyboard that it will support swappable keys and have flexible open-source firmware, allowing users to configure RGB lights and remap the keys. This will ensure that every user can customize their keyboard according to their taste.

OnePlus Nord Keyboard Release Prediction

Update: OnePlus announced its first mechanical keyboard on February 7, 2023, at its Cloud 11 event

OnePlus has released the timeline of the development of this keyboard and has made it official that it will launch in February next year, which would most probably be along with the new OnePlus 11 5G.

According to OnePlus’s official website, this new product’s concept was developed in November of this year. The website also says that the product is currently being co-created with users, which means the company is taking user feedback to ensure that the final product appeals to the masses. This is the core idea of the OnePlus Featuring platform: taking into account what the users want and designing and creating products based on it.

Further, the keyboard’s rigorous testing phase will start in January next year. After the official launch in February, we see it going under mass production from March to May.
