One UI 7 Hands-On Video Reveals Major Changes

Samsung launched One UI, its software skin, in late 2018. It replaced the company’s previous Samsung Experience, which had a negative reputation.

The first One UI, One UI 1.0, was based on Android 9. Now, we have reached One UI 6, based on Android 14.

Usually, the next One UI version’s beta starts around the same time as the next Android version’s beta. So, One UI 6 was in beta testing alongside Android 14 beta testing.

However, Samsung is doing it a bit differently this time around. Android 15 beta and stable have been released, and still, there is no One UI 7 beta.

One UI 7 based on Android 15 is said to be launching in January 2025 alongside the Galaxy S25 series.

Regardless of when the beta or release is, someone on YouTube already has it running with the changes it’s going to get.

The YouTube channel, “Mobile Wala Bhai,” has One UI 7 running on their Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The video is not in English, but YouTube’s auto-translate feature can help you understand the key points.

In the video, we see several design changes. The first difference you will notice is the different app icons for system apps. So apps like contacts, dialer, gallery, settings, etc., will have redesigned icons.

Additionally, even the widgets like device care, weather, etc., got a redesign. Not to mention, new widgets like stories, images, and secure Wi-Fi have been added.

The other key changes we can spot are in the quick settings panel and notifications. It is now split into two parts, like in iOS, HyperOS, etc. So, one page will be for notifications, and the other will be for quick settings toggles.

The notification panel changes also revealed bigger notifications with rounded edges. However, this change also means fewer notifications being visible on the display at a time due to the bigger size. As of now, it is unknown whether you can change this in settings or not.

There are changes on the lockscreen as well. The first change is a new pill-shaped element at the bottom for the charging animation and emergency services. The second change is the ability to change the clock’s position and mini widgets.
