Nvidia RTX 4090 sees price hike and stock shortages ahead of RTX 5090 launch

NVIDIA has stopped production of the GeForce RTX 4090 and increased the price before the arrival of the RTX 5090.

Spotted by Wccftech, it now appears that the prices for the RTX 4090 have almost doubled compared to the MSRP as retailers burn out their inventory. It happens at a time when NVIDIA is readying itself for the next-generation RTX 5090.

With the RTX 4090 in the middle of its end-of-life cycle, prices are going up. Major online retailer Newegg has the remaining RTX 4090s listed for as low as $2,700. Another big retailer, Amazon, sold out many variants of the RTX 4090. The ones remaining start at $2,500.

Other retailers, like B&H Photo, have listed the RTX 4090 as “Discontinued,” while BestBuy has it as “Sold Out.” This simply means that RTX 4090 availability is fast drying up since stores have shifted their focus to the upcoming RTX 5090. The increase in price is all because of the limited supply of the product.

The price increase and discontinuation of the RTX 4090 also continues in international markets. Similar hikes in prices and stock shortages have been reported by stores in Europe and the UK. Usually, older models go on sale as they approach discontinuation, but not the RTX 4090. Instead, the price is going up as NVIDIA is about to launch the new RTX 5090.

The RTX 4090 has been out almost 2 years now, and since the initial launch, it’s been the flagship of the RTX 40 series. Recently, the production of the card went slower and, from October and November this year, the production has completely been stopped.

In light of making room for the RTX 5090, retailers have now started to shift the remaining RTX 4090 stock. It has been expected that the next-generation graphics card will be officially unveiled at CES 2025, and rumors also point to its availability this January. The RTX 5090 will be more powerful with better tech, but still, some users may look at used RTX 4090 variants once they upgrade.
