The second major smartphone project from Carl Pei, the Phone (2), already pivots to the premium smartphone tier. This is not a mainstream brand currently, and Nothing doesn’t sell huge numbers.
Their take on software is unique, and it’s a light and easy skin. Another differentiating factor is the Glyph Interface on the back, which is a bunch of LED lights. It’s more of a party trick than anything functional, but it is a nice-to-have.
This Phone is confirmed to ship with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC. We don’t know if we’ll get a display upgrade. Rumours say it’ll stick to 1080P at 120Hz. There’s also a chance of a 2X or 3X zoom lens.
The major upgrade for this Phone is the performance since apps will open much faster, and the gaming performance will see some significant leaps.
Nothing Phone (2) has received radio wave certification from the NRRA (National Radio Research Agency) in Korea, suggesting its launch is approaching.
Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, confirmed in an interview with Forbes that the Nothing Phone (2) will be launched globally in July 2023. There’s a chance of an early July launch as well.
There are no proper pricing rumours yet, but since they’re moving into the premium tier, we can expect it to cross INR 40,000.
The pricing should mostly remain in the OnePlus 11R range since it’s too early for Nothing to compete with the OnePlus 11. They’ll probably price it around INR 50,000 and then bring it down later. We saw something similar with the Phone (1) that came out for INR 35,000 and dropped to as low as INR 24,999 with offers.
