We all know HMD global manufactures Nokia devices and launches them with the Android One Program. But what is this Android One Program? Let’s take a detailed look at this software program from Google, and we will then take a look at the eligible Nokia devices for the Android 11 update.
Nokia Android One Program
All phones from Nokia come under the Android One program, ensuring no compromise on software for even their cheapest devices. Android One is a unique program from Google, where smartphone manufacturers have to cut some corners on profit to ensure that Google completely takes care of the software on their devices. Smartphone manufacturers usually put bloatware on their smartphones, and they make a bit of money with it. But the Android One program from Google prohibits it. Again, for the end consumers, the Android One program ensures two major OS upgrades and security updates for a total of three years. Just after the Android OS update is pushed out to the Pixel devices, the next devices in line to receive the update are the Android One devices.
Just like last year around, this time again, we can expect Nokia to launch and push out the Android 11 update to their devices in the Q4 of 2020. Google officially launched the final Android 11 in September 2020. So, Nokia owners are now curious to know when their devices will receive the latest OS update.
Recently, HMD Global has published Nokia Android 11 update timeline (roadmap) via Nokia Mobile Twitter account. However, the tweet has been now deleted. So, we are not quite sure why the company has deleted the tweet. Maybe someone made the roadmap live too early.
Software Update Policy
Some manufacturers out there provide only one year OS updates for their cheap devices and only offer two OS updates to their more expensive offerings. But Nokia takes care of all its smartphones for three years with regular software updates (two years of OS upgrades). So compared to others, it is relatively easy to determine which devices from Nokia will be receiving the Android 11 update.
