MediaTek just announced the new mid-range 4G chipset for 2022, the Helio G99, alongside the Dimensity 1050 5G and the Dimensity 930 5G. The new 4G mid-range chipset is based on TSMC’s 12nm fabrication process. This is a successor to the existing Helio G96, which we have seen in several mid-range phones till now. Let’s look at what specifications and features the Helio G99 offers.
MediaTek Helio G99 4G Specifications
The MediaTek Helio G95 and G96 have been in the market for quite some time now. It’s time for an upgrade to the popular mid-range processors. MediaTek Helio G99 is the successor of the Helio G96, which we have seen in phones like the Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G, Redmi Note 11S, realme Narzo 50, etc. The Helio G99 SoC has improved performance and fixes the throttling issues its predecessors face.
The MediaTek Helio G99 SoC features the same CPU configuration as the Helio G96, including two ARM Cortex A76 cores and six ARM Cortex A55 efficiency cores. However, the two ARM Cortex A76 cores are clocked at 2.2GHz instead of 2.05GHz on the Helio G96. The GPU is still the same. It still features the good old ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. As for the memory, it supports LPDDR4X memory at a frequency of up to 2133MHz. And it supports eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.2 storage.
The MediaTek Helio G99 supports displays with a maximum resolution of 2520 x 1080 (Full HD+) with a refresh rate of 120Hz. As for the cameras, it supports up to 108MP camera sensor. It can record videos up to 2K (1440p) at 30FPS. It can also record FHD+ videos at 60FPS.
Equipped with the MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, it can provide a smooth gaming experience without jitters or lags while maximizing battery life. Its camera features are 3X ISP, AI Face Detection, HW depth engine, Single-Cam/Dual-Cam Bokeh, Hardware Warping Engine (EIS), Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) engine, and Multi-Frame Noise reduction.
As for connectivity, it supports Dual 4G VoLTE and carrier aggregation. It also supports Wi-Fi 5 (a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 5.2, and a Type-C port.
MediaTek Helio G99 Phones
Like its predecessor, we expect it to be launched with several smartphones. It is overall a great 4G gaming SoC for the mid-range segment. We can expect realme, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and other OEMs to launch their phones with MediaTek Helio G99. Perhaps the first phones powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 will be released in China first. We will see them launch in global markets later.
