Redmi Note 8 Pro, the successor to the famous Redmi Note 7 Pro, will soon be launched in India. Redmi already has a reputation for providing amazing performance for the price. For this reason, the new MediaTek Helio G90T processor(model MTK G90T) has already gained some traction even before the global launch. But what is this new processor all about? How does it fare against the competition? Let’s take a closer look here.
MediaTek Helio G90T Processor (MTK G90T)
The most significant thing on the Helio G90T is MediaTek’s very own HyperEngine gaming technology. Regarding games like PUBG and Fortnite, we get fast and smooth gameplay achieved through intelligent networking, rapid touchscreens, and vivid visuals. The combined result of it all makes the gaming experience an absolute treat.

Hardware and Performance
The Helio G90T features an octa-core setup with the cores boosted to 2.05 GHz. Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 comprise eight cores, which, along with an L3 cache memory, deliver an unmatched advantage over G90’s direct competitors. It comes with the latest Arm Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU, which, with its 800 MHz speed rate, provides a lag-free gaming experience. In terms of GPU performance, MediaTek claims that the G90T has a 26% bump in performance in comparison to its similar price competitors. It supports up to 10GB of LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 for faster and more fluid performance.
Camera
Regarding optics, the MTK G90T did not hold back at all. It is the first chip from MediaTek that can drive a 64MP shooter, which is the next camera size sensor that we will see in almost all future phones. It allows the brand to integrate pixel-binning technology and produce better low-light night shots. Nowadays, we see up to four or five camera lenses on a single device: a telephoto, a wide-angle, a macro, a primary, and so on. The MTK G90T is manufactured to handle all of that so that brands can manufacture devices that give users a wide diversity in mobile photography. It has a triple ISP design, which allows for real-time bokeh effects and video recording at 240 fps. One can even encode HEVC videos on this processor.
Virtual Assistant
It also has what the company calls dual “Wake Up Word,” which means that more than one trigger word can be used to call upon our smart assistants on our smartphones.
Connectivity
Regarding connectivity, we see a Cat-12 4G LTE WorldMode modem with 3x CA 4×4 MIMO and 256QAM. It allows for a stronger cellular service even in jam-packed populated areas like festivals and stadiums. In terms of support, we see dual 4G LTE and dual 4G VoLTE support. Unfortunately, the MTK G90T processor does not have a 5G support modem, but considering the price tag, it is clear that it was never intended for high-end 5G devices.
Antutu & Geekbench Benchmarks
Talking about the benchmark results for the MediaTek Helio G90T-powered Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone, we see that the device scores 281,033 points in the Antutu v8 platform. On the Geekbench 4 platform, Redmi Note 8 Pro scores 2520 points on Single-Core performance and 7621 points on Multi-Core performance.
Should I Buy Helio G90T Powered Phones?
The MTK G90T processor is explicitly targeted at budget gamers who want the best gaming experience for the price. The G90T’s HyperEngine gaming technology maintains shorter GPU rendering for rapid response, lower latency on display for improved frame rates over gameplay, efficient usage of the cores for extensive gaming periods, and better Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity for hiccup-free gaming.
MediaTek achieves this improved connectivity by implementing intelligent network prediction, which, according to them, optimizes ” the connection between your smartphone and cellular network. When it detects the Wi-Fi signal degrading, it triggers Wi-Fi and LTE concurrency that takes just milliseconds. This seamless exchange from one connection to another keeps the network connection smooth and the game lag-free”.
