MediaTek company has announced the all-new MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset under Dimensity 800 series. The Dimensity 820 chip delivers ultra-fast 5G speed and packs the company’s latest multimedia, AI and imaging innovations. With its Octa-core CPU, the chip delivers a premium user experience and superb performance. Since the era of the 5G network has already started, smartphone companies are looking for affordable processors featuring 5G speed for their smartphones. No doubt there are few smartphones with 5G enabled processors to buy in 2020 but they fall under the Flagship category. Hence, MediaTek has come up with the Dimensity 820 SoC to build affordable 5G phones.
MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC Features
Talking about the MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip’s features, the chip comes with four Cortex-A76 cores at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2GHz delivering maximum power and responsiveness. ARM Mali-G57 MC5 GPU is used with a maximum display resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels and 120Hz maximum refresh rate. Comparing the chipset with its predecessor Dimensity 800 SoC, it has a lot of improvement. The 820 SoC chipset also features MediaTek Hyper Engine 2.0 which gives an optimized gaming experience.
The 820 processor supports MediaTek’s APU 3.0 which enhances the camera features. Imagiq 5.0, which is the ISP of the processor can house up to 4 cameras with sensors size of 80 megapixels. The Chip also offers Multi-frame 4K video HDR mode. The processor packs 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and H.264, H.265/HEVC video encoding. The Dimensity 820 chipset with the Miravision Video Technology also enhances HDR10+ video playback.
Talking about networking, the processor supports Dual SIM 5G and global sub-6GHz 5G networks in Asia, North America and Europe. The Assistant General Manager of the company claims that new chipset offers higher average speeds and seamless handover between two 5G connection areas for the most reliable connectivity on the go. He also claims that the Dimensity 820 chipset provides better performance than the Snapdragon 765G and 768G processors.

Redmi 10X 5G
Xiaomi announced a lower mid-range 5G phone called Redmi 10X 5G on May 26, 2020. It is the first smartphone to feature Dimensity 820 SoC. The Redmi 10X sports a 6.57 inch FHD+ AMOLED display and is backed by a 4,520 mAh battery. It features an in-display fingerprint scanner on the front to unlock the device. For selfies, the device packs a 16-megapixel shooter. It is available in four memory variants: 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB. The available colour options of Redmi 10X are White, Blue, Gold and Purple colours. Xiaomi fans from China can buy the Redmi 10X 5G 6GB +64GB model at just 1599 yuan (16,999 approx in Indian currency).
Redmi 10X Pro 5G
The Redmi 10X series also includes a Pro variant which is dubbed as Redmi 10X Pro 5G. The 10X Pro has equipped with the same processor as 10X i.e. Dimensity 820 Chipset. So, we see the main difference between the Standard and Pro model in the camera department only. Here, we get a 20MP front camera with 78.5° FOV. The 10X Pro arrives with 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB memory configurations. It runs on the Android 10 OS with MIUI 11 (upgradable to MIUI 12) skin. It is available in China with a price tag of 2299 yuan.
