Dead iPhone Charging or not

How to Know If Your iPhone or iPad is Charging, Even When It’s Off

Your smartphone’s battery is one of the most essential hardware components. If a phone has no battery, it will refuse to display anything. This is because it will have no energy source to power the components.

IPhone or iPad users have drained their phone’s battery at least once until it powered off. When this happens, and you plug it in, you notice it doesn’t turn on immediately.

If this happens, you might wonder why your phone isn’t charging. But not to worry, as this happens often. In this guide, we will interpret how to know if your iPhone or iPad is charging, whether on or off.

How to Tell If a Dead iPhone Is Charging When Powered Off

  1. Ensure your iPhone is plugged in and the charger is connected to a power source. Ex: A wall outlet
  2. A large battery icon on a black screen will appear in a few seconds.
  3. If the icon shows an empty battery, the iPhone is not charging.
  4. If the icon shows a marginally filled battery with a cable at the bottom of the screen, it means the iPhone is charging.

How to Tell If iPhone Is Charging When Powered On

If you didn’t let your phone drain till it shut off, it’s much easier to determine if your iPhone is charging.

  1. Ensure your iPhone is plugged in and the charger is connected to a power source. Ex: A wall outlet
  2. Check the battery icon on the top right of your screen.
  3. A charging iPhone has a lightning bar in the middle of the top right icon.
  4. If the icon doesn’t have the lightning bolt symbol or is white or has a percentage on it, then it is not charging.

If you cannot see the charging symbol, ensure the lightning cable or the adaptor is connected correctly to the power source. If that doesn’t work, try changing the cable, adaptor, or power source.

If you have Battery Percentage toggled on, the lightning bolt will be to the right of the percentage, indicating the charge.

The lightning bolt will appear to the right of the charging icon if you have wireless charging and your iPhone is placed. After a few seconds, it will go inside the icon.

How to Tell if iPad Is Charging When Powered On or Off

Your iPad has similar methods to check the charging status as your iPhone.

Like the dead iPhone symbol, a dead iPad symbol also shows an almost empty battery icon when not charging. It is charging if you only see the battery in green and no charging chord.

When your iPad is turned on, the method to know the charging status is the same as an iPhone. A dead iPad may take time to power on, so please be patient for a few minutes.

Remember that charging times vary based on the device model, the charger’s power output, and many other factors. Factors like ambient temperature and the socket also affect charging speed as the battery slows down the power intake when it’s hot or the power supplied is insufficient.
