The Indian Telecomm company Reliance Jio was known for its revolutionary move of launching 4G. Jio was the very first to introduce 4G in India. Reliance won a lot of hearts by providing free 4G services at first and then at reasonable prices than any other telecom services. The ulterior motive of the company was to provide 4G services to every Indian and they somewhat became successful. Now, Reliance Jio has developed a complete 5G solution from scratch. It will likely be ready by 2021 for trials. The company has also said that they will bring an affordable Android-based 5G smartphone.
Jio 5G Phone
The company launched 4G enabled Jio phones that reached more than 10 crores, Indian users. Still, more than 30 crores users use featured phones. To change that, Reliance India Limited (RIL) partnered with Google and decided to develop a new cheaper affordable 5G Android smartphone at their 43rd Annual General Meeting. The company wants to make Indian 2G-Mukt (free of 2G).

In the latest tweet, the company stated that “Through this partnership, we are confident that we can accelerate the national mission of putting a smart device in the hands of every Indian.” The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai replied to that tweet stating the company will invest $4.5B for the digital Indian movement.
It is too early for the specs of the device and the company didn’t disclose any details till now. We will update it once they reveal the specs and features. But we know one thing for sure, the device will be a 5G device. Also, the smartphone will run on the Android operating system.
Till now, there is no news about the launch but we expect Jio 5G Phone will be released sometime later this year or early 2021. Since we all know about boycotting Chinese productions, there is an increase in the chance that the company will design, develop, and manufacture in India. At present, Indian wants to boycott Chinese smartphones, so we can expect the company will initially focus to bring an low-cost 4G smartphone by the end of 2020 which will probably be called Jio Phone 3.
Price in India
We noticed in Mukesh Ambani’s speech about the importance of the word “affordable”. He mentioned that the smartphone will be launched at a fraction of its current cost for Indian consumers. It is likely, the Jio 5G Phone may be priced somewhere around at Rs.5000 or less which is pretty affordable. It will be strong competition for the likes of Xiaomi and Realme.
The company will begin field testing of 5G next year once 5G spectrum allocation is completed. The company plans to upgrade its 4G networks to 5G with completely homegrown technology. Talking about its availability, Jio’s 5G network will likely roll out in 2021 for trails. If the trials are successful, we can expect large scale commercial 5G launch as well as a 5G mobile.
The upcoming Jio 5G Phone could be available for booking through both My Jio app and Official website (Jio.com). Once online booking starts, you have to provide all the necessary details such as EMAIL ID, Mobile Number and Address. Pay the amount online (If required) and wait for a few weeks to receive the device at your doorsteps.
