iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, SE iOS 16

iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE iOS 16 Update Status

Apple recently released iOS 15.6, perhaps the last significant iOS 15.X update. Apple might follow this up with iOS 15.5, a minor update. This is because the launch of iOS 16 is close. Apple will soon announce the starting date of WWDC22, which will announce their new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, etc. Apple will also announce the list of devices that will support iOS 16. This makes the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Generation) users wonder whether their phones will get the latest iOS 16 update. In this article, we will talk about whether or not the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Generation) users will be able to use the iOS 16 update on their iPhones.

Will iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) get iOS 16?

  • No, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE may not get the iOS 16 update.

The iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) are currently running on the latest iOS 15. These iPhones received iOS updates for about six years. As far as iOS 16 is concerned, it will require a minimum of an A10 chipset to function. However, the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) are powered by the Apple A9 chipset. This means that these iPhones would not get the support for the iOS 16 update.

However, this won’t be true until officially confirmed by Apple. Apple will confirm the list of supported devices for iOS 16 in WWDC22 (World Wide Developer Conference 2022). Similar predictions were made last year when it was said that the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) would end support at iOS 14 and not get the iOS 15 update. But, to everyone’s surprise, Apple also released iOS 15 for these iPhones. So, take these predictions with a pinch of salt.

The last time Apple dropped software support for its iPhones was in 2019, with the iPhone 6 not getting iOS 13. With Apple’s focus on its software services such as iCloud, Apple TV, iMessage, iTunes, etc, Apple wants you to have more from iPhones. They want users to use their iPhones for longer to use Apple’s software services, which will make them money.

This brings hope for Apple to support the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st Gen) for one more year with iOS 16. These are just speculations until Apple hopefully announces the official list of supported devices for iOS 16 in WWDC22.

Apple may include wallpapers with widget-like capabilities and an Always-on Display feature.
