It is safe to say that Apple has marketed the use of titanium in their recent Pro iPhones quite heavily. They have even incorporated the material’s name into all color options for the past two years.
However, as per a report, the iPhone 17 series could mark a surprising return of aluminum to Apple’s flagship offerings.
Ever since Apple made the distinction between their base and Pro iPhones, aluminum has been reserved for the base models. The Pros have been using stainless steel, on the other hand. Now, with the iPhone 17 series, all the models will supposedly use aluminum.
Other Design Changes Coming With the iPhone 17 Series
The rest of the design language in next year’s iPhones could also see some changes. As per the same report, the top half of the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear will be aluminum, while the other half will be glass to support wireless charging. The camera bump will apparently use aluminum as well, replacing the 3D glass Apple currently uses.
Additionally, this redesigned camera bump is likely to be larger on the iPhone 17 Pros than on previous generations. All of this adds up to be a quite significant visual upgrade, considering Apple has not done much in that regard for a while now.
The source of this report has a very good track record for rumors concerning Apple, so we might actually see these changes come to life.
The iPhone 17 series will expectedly come out in the fall of 2025, likely in the month of September.
We will hopefully get more information about new developments as we approach that time window.
