Apple’s entry-level iPad was last refreshed in September 2021, alongside the iPhone 13 series. The iPad 9th Generation is the most popular iPad from Apple. It brings excellent performance and battery for an affordable price. This trend continues with the iPad’s next iteration— the 10th Generation (iPad 10 2022).

Now Apple has launched the 10th Generation iPad. The device features a larger display, an updated processor, and a new design. It is also available in new colours. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming iPad 10th Gen.

Update October 18: Apple has launched the iPad 10th Generation with a large 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and A14 Bionic chip.

iPad 10th Generation Release Date

• The iPad 10th Generation could be released on October 24, 2022, alongside the iPad Pro 2022.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman confirmed that iPadOS 16.1 would be released on October 24. The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is also expected to launch the 10th Gen iPad on the same day.

Apple usually releases its new version of the entry-level iPad alongside the iPhone launch in September in the United States. For context, both the iPad 9th Generation and the iPad 8th Generation were announced in September alongside the iPhone 12 series and iPhone 13 series, respectively. However, it did not happen this year. The iPad 10 2022 was not released alongside the iPhone 14 series.

We are expecting a change this year. According to recent reports, Apple will launch a few products via a press release in October. These products will include the iPad 10th Gen and the new iPad Pros. Moreover, iPadOS 16 has also been delayed until later this year. This could also be a hint toward the release of the new iPad. We might see iPadOS 16 launching alongside the new iPads. However, we have no official statement from Apple yet.

Design

The design of the upcoming iPad 10th Generation was leaked back in August by MySmartPrice. The design now has a flat frame and a flat back while retaining the old design on the front with a Home Button. The camera module is also unique from all other iPads. It looks very similar to the one on the iPhone X. This design resembles a blend between the iPad Pro and the current entry-level iPad design.

The iPad 10th Gen is rumored to have a USB-C port for the first time. This would allow it to connect to accessories and other devices like monitors and cameras. The flat frames also mean we will finally get support for the Apple Pencil 2. We will also see new accessories to pair with the redesigned iPad 10th Gen.

Display

The iPad 10th Gen will also be 0.5mm thinner than the current iPad at 6.98mm. The display will also be a bit larger at 10.5 inches. This is the same display size as the 2019 iPad Air and the 2017 iPad Pro. This means we might finally get a laminated display on the entry-level iPad.

Reportedly, the iPad 10th Generation will arrive as a bigger version of the iPad mini 6th generation. This suggests the upcoming iPad will be based on the iPad mini instead of the iPad Air.

Spec Upgrades

The iPad 10th Gen is rumored to be powered by the A14 Bionic chipset. This will be a good upgrade over the A13 Bionic chip on the current entry-level iPad. According to Apple, the A14 Bionic performs 30% better than the A13 Bionic’s CPU and GPU. The RAM will also be bumped from 3GB to 4GB. This is because we have only seen A14-powered Apple devices equipped with at least 4GB RAM. The iPad 10th Gen 2022 will also support 5G with the cellular model.

Another report suggests that the M1 Chip will power the new 10.5-inch iPad. The M1 chip is available in Apple’s more expensive iPad Pro. It also powers the iPad Air 2022.

The battery size of the iPad 10th Gen is still unknown. However, we can expect a large battery that will last long enough for your daily usage.

As for the cameras, we don’t expect any significant upgrades. We will likely see the same 12MP Ultra-wide camera and the 8MP rear camera. Apple could, however, upgrade the rear camera from 8MP to 12MP.

Apple’s current entry-level iPad retails for $329. The price has remained consistent for years. However, we could see a price bump this year due to the redesign and other upgrades. If this happens to be accurate, Apple could price the iPad 10the Gen at $349 or even $399. It will also be available in two storage variants— 64GB and 256 GB. Note that these are only speculations, and the price may vary.

For instance, there were rumors about the iPhone 14 getting a price bump, which turned out to be false. We hope that the same happens with the iPad, too. Until then, these are just leaks and speculations; you should take them with a pinch of salt.
