During the iOS 18 launch event, Siri showed improvements and was heavily advertised. If there are queries and follow-up questions that it can’t directly answer, it’ll transfer the query to ChatGPT, and ChatGPT will give you the answer. Unfortunately, this feature is not currently live for public use.
Even the public Apple Intelligence features like Image Playground and some others are on a waitlist. The entire suite of Apple Intelligence features is currently not out. Apple Intelligence rollout is among the most un-Apple-like events that have recently taken place. They almost always announce a feature when it’s ready to go.
However, Apple Intelligence is late- delayed, has been through multiple betas, is still on a waitlist, and it’s also not perfect. There are many issues with it completely getting the user requests wrong.
Apple Intelligence was also heavily advertised as a key selling point for the entire iPhone 16 series. However, to this day, those phones do not have the entire feature suite. It’s all coming soon or coming later this year. The features are currently live on the macOS 18.2 Beta as well.
As per a renowned tipster, Mark Gurman, in the Power On newsletter, Apple is releasing iOS 18.2 ahead of schedule. Apple usually releases the X.2 updates around the second week of December. This is one week ahead. The analyst doesn’t mention a specific date. However, we can expect it to be released around the 2nd of December, 2024.
iOS 18.2 Beta 3 is already released, and we can expect more Betas to follow soon. At the end of November, we’ll get the RC version of iOS 18.2. We don’t suggest updating to the 18.2 Beta just yet, as it’s quite buggy and can have battery life and stability issues. It’s not worth installing a Beta on your main device. Usually, Apple releases these updates on Mondays. This is in line with the report, as the 2nd of December is a Monday.
Many consumers and even investors aren’t happy with Apple’s slow progress on Apple Intelligence. Apple is probably hoping for a higher satisfaction rate with the new Siri. If Siri integration with ChatGPT massively improves contextual understanding and can maintain better conversation continuity, it’s indeed a major upgrade.
Apart from Siri integration, we could see a couple of minor Apple Intelligence features as well. However, this is still not going to contain the complete rollout, which will happen over the course of the next few months. There are also more features in this update, like the ability to choose default apps for mail, browser, etc.
