Huawei Nova 2S Officially Unveiled with 6″ 18:9 Display and Four Cameras

Huawei today launched the Nova 2s smartphone at a media event in Beijing, China. This latest mid-range offering is similar to the Huawei Honor V10 launched last week. The device has thin bezels at the top and bottom and a fingerprint sensor on the front. The device is made of a premium chassis made of metal and is relatively light at 169 grams. The device will be available in Cherry Pink, Obsidian Black, Light Blue, Silver Diamond Gray, and Acacia Red variants.

The Huawei Nova 2s sports a 6-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) display with a pixel density of 402 ppi. The display is massive, with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D glass on top. Under the hood, a 64-bit Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC powers the device. The device comes in three memory variants: 4 GB RAM + 64 GB, 6 GB RAM + 64 GB, and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB. The internal memory is expandable via a micro SD card up to 256 GB.

The Huawei Nova 2s offers a dual camera setup on both front and rear, totaling up to four cameras in the smartphone. The rear sports a 16 MP RGB sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 20 MP monochrome sensor with a 120-degree wide angle lens f/1.8. Aperture while the front offers a combination of a wide-angle 20 MP lens and a 2 MP for selfies and video calling. There is also an LED flash on the front, and the cameras contain an array of shooting modes.

The Nova 2s runs EMUI 8.0 based on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a 3340 mAh battery, which Huawei claims charges from 0 to 100% in 2 hours via a USB TypeC port.

The Huawei Nova 2s is priced at  CNY 2699( Rs 26,500 approx) for the 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM variant, CNY 2999 (Rs 27,000 approx)  for the 6 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM variant, and  CNY 3399(Rs 33,500 approx) for the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM version. Huawei has also released a special edition ‘Yixing Zhang’ phone variant priced at CNY 3,399 (Rs. 33,500 approx). At this price, it competes against flagships such as Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, OnePlus 5T, and Huawei’s recently launched Huawei Honor V10. Huawei has placed the specs of both these devices at a very similar price with key changes. The Nova 2s has dual cameras on both sides, which the Honor V10 doesn’t have, but the Honor V10 comes with the new AI-supported Kirin 970 chip, while the Nova 2s get a year-old Kirin 960 processor. It looks like the decision comes down to the Camera vs Processor.

The device will be available from December 12, but the pre-orders have started from today. The device will also come with a free selfie stick, a 2-in-1 data cable (micro-USB and USB Type-C), and a protective case as part of the pre-order gifts.
