Huawei Mate 9 Series Gets EMUI 8.0 Stable Update; Brings Android 8.0 Oreo

Huawei mate 9 series which was launched exactly one year ago is finally getting a stable EMUI 8.0 update after weeks in beta testing. This update will bring the latest Android 8.0 Oreo to the phablet-sized device that was Huawei’s great big flagship of last year.

The EMUI 8.0 update is currently not available as an OTA, but we can manually download it to the device. The Mate 9 variants that will support this update are:

  1. Mate 9 MHA-AL00
  2. Mate 9 Full Netcom Version MHA-TL00
  3. Mate 9 Pro Full Netcom Version LON-AL00
  4. Mate 9 Porsche Edition

Users who can’t wait for the OTA and want to use this update immediately can go to Huawei Mobile Services app and select upgrade request. The new EMUI 8.0 brings an array of features and tricks in its sleeve but the user interface is almost same and resembles EMUI 5. The upgrade brings AI experience to the smartphone which works behind the scenes and allocates resources to frequently used apps and also on the surface for apps like the camera, which can recognize scenes and also even provide suggestions. Also there an intelligent voice assistance.

The update also contains a PC Mode for a full desktop experience when connected to an external display similar to the Samsung’s Dex does but with a cable. You can even connect a wireless mouse, keyboard and other accessories with dual Bluetooth.

The most visual key feature is its smart split screen feature which is very useful in multitasking and replying to texts while watching movies or videos. The Huawei Mate 9’s 5.9-inch display also makes it perfect to use. The notification pop up also includes a split screen icon which enables you to go into split screen mode without interrupting your video.

Additionally, there is support from Dynamic Wallpaper which changes the wallpaper as your day progresses, LinkedIn Built-In for syncing your contact list with your LinkedIn account and One-Step Shortcut for adding app shortcuts to the home screen. The EMUI 8.0 aims to solve the fluency problem in this device and provide a flawless user experience. However, it’s not perfect and leaves room for more improvement. Many people have complained about user interface freezing making users miss calls, alarms failing, third-party launcher problems which are expected to be fixed in the next update. Huawei P series and the Huawei Honor V10 series are also in EMUI 8.0 beta testing and will soon receive the update.
