Honor 9i with Dual Rear and Front Cameras Launched at Rs 17,999

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has completed its third year in India. On its anniversary, it launched the Honor 9i, the first device by the company to have four cameras. With stunning looks and powerful specifications, this smartphone can dominate the Rs 15,000 – 20,000 price segment.

Available in three variants: Platinum Gold, Navy Blue, and Midnight Black, the Honor 9i is the same rebranded phone launched in China and Malaysia by the name Huawei Maimang 6 and Huawei Nova 2i. Honor has aggressively expanded its portfolio by launching devices like the Honor 8 Pro with incredible specs.

Outside, it sports a 5.9-inch Full View display with an aspect ratio 18:9. The Honor 9i adopts a screen resolution of 2160 X 1080 pixels (FHD+). The device will turn heads with its sharp production, minimal bezels, and classy metallic body. Though nothing innovative, it has a unique design that feels elegant and premium. The rounded corners, curved edges, and 2.5D glass on the front also help. Inside the hood is a Kirin 659 SoC (octa-core) with 4 GB of RAM. It offers 64GB of inbuilt storage (expandable to 128GB).

Let’s talk about the most attractive and unique feature of the Honor 9i – the four cameras. On the back, it features a  (16MP + 2MP) while there is a (13MP + 2MP) camera set up on the front for selfies and video calling. Honor also included some ‘smart’ features as well. Now, you can click photos or selfies just by a gesture. A new feature called ‘smart selfie toning flash’ automatically adjusts the brightness level of the front flash according to the environment. Though it’s not perfected like the Apple iPhone 8, it performs decently. The rear cameras perform clear, sharp images, but the colors look over-saturated.

The device runs EMUI 5.1 on top of Android Nougat (7.0). Honor has added features like gesture-based shortcuts like tapping twice with two fingers for screen recording, tapping once with one finger for a screenshot, etc. Honor has also added the ‘Huawei Histen audio system’ from their labs, which enhances sound output with algorithms and Bluetooth apt X support. The device is powered by a 3340mAh battery, capable of delivering 9 hours of video playback, 7 hours of gaming, and up to 20 hours of talk time.

The Chinese manufacturer has already crossed Apple in sales globally and is second after Samsung. However, the company does not want to open retail stores in the country. So the Honor 9i will be exclusively available on Flipkart and will go on sale from October 14 at Rs 17,999, competing against Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Moto G5S Plus. Honor also launched two new tablets, the Mediapad T3 and Mediapad T3 10, and a 10000 mAh Quick Charge Power Bank at Rs 2.399. With these launches, Honor targets to capture 10% of the Indian market.
