Honor 8 and Honor 7X to Get Android Oreo Update in Q2 2018

The Honor 8 may not get the actual Oreo update but will be getting the EMUI 8 features.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Huawei sub-brand Honor, achieved massive success from the 2016 launch Honor 8 and the 2017 Honor 7X which we rated to be the best mid-range smartphone. The company has promised EMUI 8 based on Android 8.0 Oreo for both the smartphones, but they are yet to receive them and still runs on EMUI 5.

According to the Honor France’s Twitter account, both the smartphones will be getting the EMUI 8.0 update on Q2 2018.Interestingly, this contradicts the Honor India’s statement on Twitter that the Honor 8 will not be updated to EMUI 8 for hardware and software limitations. Though later, a representative cleared that Honor 8 will get some of the Oreo features through an update but not the actual OS. The CEO also claimed the company is conducting tests on the Honor 8, Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9.

As for the Honor 7X, the Oreo should be available for the smartphone as it was launched later after Oreo was released. Company officials claimed the device shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat based EMUI 5 because the only Nougat was available at the time of manufacturing. The device, however, got a major update recently where it got the face unlocking feature and AR lens, a feature inspired by Snapchat. The face unlocking, however, a major achievement as currently was there is no phone in the segment which has this feature. The update was rolled out in certain markets like Germany but is yet to reach the Indian users.

Still, the Honor 7X will get the Oreo update a few months later and hopefully the Honor 8 too. The EMUI 8 uses customised user interface inspired from Oreo and comes with features like Smart Resolution, Dynamic wallpaper, Navigation bar, customisations and more along with the regular Oreo features. The company claimed the EMUI 8 delivers a smooth UI experience enabling single touch between user spaces, prompt data transfer and fast file sharing abilities.
