As per earlier leaks, the Pixel 10 series was supposed to launch earlier than the Pixel 9 series. Last year, we got the Pixel 9 series in the month of August. While there were some leaks that predicted a July launch instead, new leaks contradict this information.
Instead of July, the new Pixel 10 devices are expected to make their debut in August. More specifically, on August 20, 2025, with pre-orders beginning right away. The report further claims that the lineup may hit retail stores on August 28, 2025.
In other news, the phones might feature a better modem. Earlier Pixel devices used Samsung modems. These modems are known for competitive inefficiency, and also for worse overall reception. Qualcomm modems pull way ahead, while MediaTek’s modems are on par.
To improve the cellular reception of the Pixel 10 series and also make it more efficient overall, Google is moving away from Samsung modems. Instead, the phones will ship with MediaTek modems. This means potentially faster network speeds, better connectivity in more areas, and better battery life thanks to more efficient network tower switching.
Another welcome change is the high PWM displays. OLED displays constantly flicker to display colors in lower brightness, and the flicker happens extremely fast, so it’s not visible to the eyes. However, it may cause headaches for many people. To address this, Google is using higher PWM values, which will reduce the effect.
Another key complaint Google is addressing is the SOCs. Until the Tensor G4, all of them were made with Samsung’s fabrication, which was not the best at thermal control or efficiency. Google is making the move to TSMC with Tensor G5, which will potentially offer better performance and thermals.
The camera specs have already leaked a while ago. The base Pixel 9 will get a smaller main sensor and a downgraded ultrawide, but will gain a telephoto camera. The camera setup for the Pro models is largely the same as before.
In other news, Android 16 just came out with a fresh new Material design and some new features. The Pixel 10 series will ship with Android 16 out of the box and will have 7 years of major Android updates. We’ll have to wait for August to find out more information on AI features and whatever else Google is planning for this series.
A few days ago, the Pixel 10 devices were also spotted in public for the first time, giving us the first real-life images of this phone.
