Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Could Be Samsung’s Most Affordable Foldable Yet, But It’s Nothing New

Samsung offers the Z series of phones for fashion, lifestyle, and productivity. The Flip series usually starts at 999$, and this is still a very high price that’s out of reach for a lot of people. Samsung has been trying to offer a clamshell-style flip device at a lower price for a while now. We got a lot of leaks that the company may release a more affordable Flip phone this year.

As per Greek media (Techmaniacs), the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE’s specs have leaked. While the more expensive Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 have a lot of improvements in form factor, and they’re also a lot thinner, the cheaper Z Flip 7 FE is likely an identical device to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

This is a genius strategy from Samsung, since the company no longer has to manufacture a whole separate device that would’ve cost more. A year down the line, the prices of components also go down. Considering that Samsung is quite iterative with these phones already, the company can afford to lower the price and offer the Z Flip 7 FE at a slightly more affordable price.

Samsung is expanding its flagship portfolio this year. We’ve seen the teaser for the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is an addition to the main S lineup of devices. Now, we have another FE model in the foldable series.

As per the leak, the display is the exact same as the Z Flip 6. It will probably feature a 6.7″ internal display, with a 120Hz refresh rate (LTPO), and it’s AMOLED with a ~1080P resolution. That’s the exact same as the Z Flip 6. The external display is rumored to be a 3.4″ AMOLED panel, which is also the same.

The performance is genuinely not much of a compromise. Instead of using the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite, the company will mostly opt for last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The phone will likely start at 12GB of RAM to support all flagship Galaxy AI features. It’s a blazing-fast and capable chip. As for battery specs, there are unfortunately no improvements. The flagship models may get a capacity bump, but the FE model remains at 4000mAh and the same charging speed as before. That’s 25W for wired, and 15W wireless.

Earlier, there were rumors that Samsung could use the Exynos 2500 or Exynos 2400e SOC on the FE models. The new leak mentions the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 instead, so we can assume the yield rate problems have not yet been solved.

The camera specs do not have any changes either. A 50MP main camera sensor (1/1.56″ approx), and a 12MP ultrawide, with a 10MP selfie camera. All of the lenses will support 4K 60FPS video recording, which has been the case for a while now.

Summary of the specs:

  • 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP selfies.
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 12GB RAM.
  • 4000mAh battery, 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging.
  • 6.7″ internal 1080P 120Hz LTPO AMOLED, and 3.4″ outer AMOLED.
  • USB C Type 3.2

That’s basically an identical spec sheet (and presumably identical phone) to the Z Flip 6. If Samsung still keeps the Flip 6 around, that’ll offer much better value than this model, when the older model is on sale. This looks like Samsung’s strategy to clear out the old stock of the Z Flip 6, since the model did not perform particularly well in the market. Hopefully, the company controls the pricing.
