Samsung leads the Android smartphone industry when it comes to providing timely updates. The company always ensures that the smartphones launched by them stay up-to-date and receive proper, stable updates. Recently, the company has been dominating the Android 14-based One UI 6 OS update to most of its smartphones. They are also known to provide updates to their old devices consistently sometimes.
The company launched the Galaxy A71 series of devices somewhere in 2020. The smartphones were too good for the specifications they offered and were loved by many fans and consumers. Many people bought the Galaxy A71 smartphone, which includes 4G and 5G variants. The 4G and 5G variants run the Android 13-based One UI 5.1 version. As the One UI 6 update is rolled out to most of the devices by the company, the users are concerned about whether their smartphones will be eligible for the OS upgrade. About Samsung Galaxy A71 4G and 5G
Let’s recall the most loved smartphones—Galaxy A71 4G & 5G. The South Korean giant unveiled the Galaxy A71 4G in 2020, and the 5G version followed up within a few months. Both smartphones have a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Display with 1080×2400 pixels resolution. The Galaxy A71 4G variant was adopted by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, and the stable Snapdragon 765G powered the 5G variant. Though the SD765G was not used worldwide, the company has also used its Exynos 980 in some regions.
Regarding the optics, both smartphones have a powerful and good camera setup. The A71 4G has three cameras, and the 5G variant has a quad-camera form at the back. The 4G variant has a 64MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor. For a 5G variant, along with the above camera setup, it has an additional 5MP macro sensor. Both 4G & 5G variants have 32MP selfie cameras.
The two variants pack a 4500 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. It arrived with a 6GB or 8GB RAM configuration and a 128GB Storage configuration.
Galaxy A71 One UI 6 (Android 14) update status
- As per Samsung’s update policy, Galaxy A71 4G and A71 5G are not eligible for the Android 14-based One UI 6 update.
The Galaxy A71 4G & 5G smartphones were launched with Android 10-based One UI 2.1 software. The company has been regularly and constantly updating smartphones from time to time concerning security patches and OS upgrades.
At that time, Samsung’s update policy was that they provided three years of major OS upgrades and four years of security patches, and both smartphones fell under the same list. Three years of software updates were critical to getting all the latest features and user interfaces on the devices that Samsung brought for their Galaxy devices.
As both the devices were launched with Android 10-based One UI 2.1, they received One UI 2.5 in August 2020, which brought new features like Bitmoji, wireless DeX, and enhanced Samsung keyboard customizations.
After a few months, the smartphones started receiving Android 11-based One UI 3 software. The update brought new features like redesigned User Interface, enhanced privacy and security, and improved performance. The company then released a subsequent update, One UI 3.1 for the Galaxy A71, in March 2021. This update brought new features remaining for Android 11, like Eye Comfort Shield, private share, and additional camera features.
The Galaxy A71 4G and 5G received Android 12-based One UI 4 in early 2022. This significantly revamped the User Interface and Operating System with the Material-You design and similar integrated features. In August 2022, the smartphone received an Android 13-based One UI 5 software update. In December 2022, the Galaxy A71 5G variant received One UI 5.1 update based on Android 13.
In addition to the above major updates, the smartphones constantly kept receiving the concerned security patches as per the scheduled time. The latest security patch is September 2022 for the Galaxy A71 4G variant.
It is important to note that the company has utilized all three major OS upgrades for the smartphones promised under Samsung’s three-year software update program. There are no official words for the smartphone to receive One UI 6. Hence, when analyzing the company’s three-year software updates program, the devices will not receive the Android 14-based One UI 6 update.
However, we are unsure about the company’s mysterious and unexpected updates that they have provided to most of their old smartphones, which have a probability for the One UI 6 update. But the chances of that happening are significantly less for Galaxy A71 users.
Considering all the points, we conclude that the Galaxy A71 4G & 5G smartphones will not receive any software upgrades, and the Android 13-based One UI 5 is the last OS upgrade they have received. Moreover, smartphones will receive security patches and individual bug fixes from time to time.

This is sad. I read somewhere that A52 will still be supported and will get the One UI 6.0. To think that the processor, RAM, and other “internals” of the A71 are either the same or better than the A52. I guess this is how Samsung lose to Apple.
