Indian e-commerce company Flipkart has announced the launch of their first smartphone under their Billion brand which was announced in July this year. Flipkart has been venturing into other markets with their experience they acquired in the last 10 years of their business Flipkart’s digital payment platform PhonePe recently launched a new POS (Point of Sale) that allows merchant and shopkeepers to accept payment from their customers. Flipkart also launched the Digiflip Pro series of tablets in 2014.
The Flipkart smartphone is named Billion Capture+ which will be made in India. The company says the specifications are based on millions of reviews posted on its e-commerce platform. The device features a 5.5 inch full HD (1920×1080 px) display with 401 PPI with 2.5D Dragontrail glass on top for protection. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset and will have two memory variants: 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal memory and 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage. It also has expandable storage up to 128 GB by a micro SD card.
The Billion Capture+ smartphones come with dual cameras on the rear which is the USP of the device. Both the cameras are 13 MP ( one RGB + monochrome sensor) and supported by dual tone LED flash. The company claims the dual cameras on the smartphones have been enhanced to capture brilliant and sharp images even in low-light conditions. The twin cameras also include shallow depth of field effect, something we have seen on higher-end smartphones like Honor 9i, OnePlus 5. There is an array of camera modes to choose from like Auto and Panorama, a Supernight mode for low-light imaging, Pro mode for finer control and the Portrait mode for bokeh shots. There is an 8 MP front camera for selfies and video calling.
Flipkart has added a metal unibody casing with curved edges for the device. It comes with unlimited cloud storage and runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat but will get an Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade soon. The device is backed up by a 3500 mAh battery with Quick Charge support which Flipkart claims seven hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging. The device has USB Type C charger.

At this price, the device competes against the likes of Moto G5s Plus and Xiaomi Mi A1. Flipkart says it will have attractive launch offers along with financing options and no cost EMI when the smartphone goes on sale. For servicing the device will be supported by the pan India service network of F1 Info Solutions, which is now owned by Flipkart. The company claims it has 130 service centres for its phones in over 125 cities in the country.
