EMUI 13 Update: Everything We Know So Far

Huawei’s latest version of its custom user interface for Android will be EMUI 13, which will be available on several global Huawei smartphones. The EMUI 13 update will be a decent upgrade over EMUI 12, with several new features and improvements. One of the most exciting aspects of EMUI 13 is the inclusion of Android 12.

EMUI 13 Upcoming Features

The Chinese manufacturer usually skins Android with its custom EMUI interface, but things will change with the upcoming version. According to a recent report by Huawei Central, Huawei is working on a new interface based on Android 12. However, things could’ve been even more exciting if EMUI 13 could run GMS. And yes, although EMUI 13 will be based on Android 12’s source code, it still can’t run GMS.

EMUI 13 could take the features from the Chinese ROM for Huawei smartphones, HarmonyOS 3. The explanation is that EMUI 12 had similar features to HarmonyOS 2. Some features we may see on EMUI 13 are dark mode scheduling, wallpaper color dynamic theming (similar to Material You), new widgets, better file sharing, and large-sized folders.

EMUI 13 Release Timeline

  •  EMUI 13 is expected to be announced in December 2022.

Currently, there is no official statement from Huawei regarding the release date of EMUI 13. However, the recently listed Huawei Mate 50 series reveals that EMUI 13 is coming to these smartphones. Nevertheless, these phones have only been released in China, and the global launch is still unknown.

Conversely, Huawei has begun testing HarmonyOS 3 in China, which could be EMUI 13 for the global market. The stable version of the HarmonyOS 3 remains unreleased.

To recall, Huawei did not announce anything about EMUI 13 during the Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) 2022. Maybe Huawei was not ready to announce the new software yet. Regardless, we may see EMUI 13 announced alongside the Huawei Mate 50 series globally during the autumn event later this year. We will also see the roadmap and the list of supported devices during the same event. Check for this space for any future updates on EMUI 13.
