What Are the Charging Speeds for the Google Pixel 9 Series?

Google recently unveiled its all-new Pixel 9 series, and it seems like they have focused a lot on the hardware front this time around.

This year, they have also introduced a new model, the Pixel 9 Pro XL. Also, they have seemingly merged their folding phone into this series since it is called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Now, coming to the topic, let us discuss the charging speeds on the Pixel 9 series phones.

Model Wired Charging Speed Wireless Charging Speed
Pixel 9 27W 15W (Pixel Stand), 12W (Qi-certified)
Pixel 9 Pro 27W 21W (Pixel Stand), 12W (Qi-certified)
Pixel 9 Pro XL 37W 23W (Pixel Stand), 12W (Qi-certified)
Pixel 9 Pro Fold 21W 7.5W (Qi-certified)

Google Pixel 9 Series

Pixel 9

The Pixel 9 supports 27W wired charging. Google has decided to keep the wired charging speed on the base model the same as last year. The Pixel 8 also supports 27W wired charging.

On the other hand, the wireless charging speed has weirdly decreased slightly. The Pixel 9 supports 15W wireless charging using the 2nd generation Google Pixel Stand.

And if you use a Qi-certified wireless charger, the charging speed goes up to 12W. The charging speeds for the Pixel 8 were 18W using the 2nd generation Google Pixel Stand and 12W using a Qi-certified wireless charger.

Pixel 9 Pro

For some reason, Google has decreased the wired charging speeds on the Pixel 9 Pro compared to last year’s Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro supports 27W wired charging, while the Pixel 8 Pro could do 30W.

This is also true for wireless charging, as the Pixel 9 Pro supports 21W charging with the 2nd generation Google Pixel Stand, which is less than the 23W charging on the Pixel 8 Pro. Both of them support 12W charging with a Qi-certified wireless charger.

Pixel 9 Pro XL

The Pixel 9 Pro XL is rated at 37W wired charging. It can also go up to 23W while charging wirelessly using the 2nd generation Google Pixel Stand.

As for charging with Qi-certified wireless chargers, it is the same as all other models — 12W.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold

This year, Google’s offering to the folding smartphone market supports up to 21W wired charging. As for the wireless charging, Google has not disclosed a number yet. They have just mentioned that it is Qi-certified.

However, there are claims that it tops out at a rate of 7.5W, regardless of whatever charger you use, which is unfortunate. The fact that the battery capacity is smaller than last year’s Pixel Fold also does not help. We hope Google has done something special with the Tensor G4 to make up for these shortcomings.
