Can’t Remove Devices from Google Home? Here’s What to Do

Google designs the Google Home app to control all your services and household appliances in one place. It can do various things like control compatible lights, set routines, play the news, check the weather, and much more.

When the app was launched in late 2016, its users used it to control their Assitant-enabled smart speakers for basic tasks like playing music or checking the weather. We have come a very long way since then. Thousands of products, like TVs, doorbells, speakers, etc., are now controlled via the Google Home app.

Since its launch, it has attracted a lot of users. But you have likely discarded multiple compatible products registered in the app since its launch. Even though you have discarded the product, it still appears in the app. This guide will show you how to remove an app from Google Home.

How to Remove Old Devices from Google Home

  1. Go to the Google Home app on your device.
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner.
  3. Select Remove device at the bottom.
  4. Confirm the removal.

Unable to Remove Devices from Google Home

If you continue to see your device after being removed, try these methods.

1. Unlink it From Assistant Settings

If the device is removed from Google Home, it’s likely still linked to your account. To remove it from your Google account, do the following.

  1. Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner and select Assistant Settings > Devices.
  2. Tap the device you want to unlink
  3. On Android, Press Remove device to remove and Unlink this device > Unlink on iOS.

2. Factory Resetting the Device

Even if you plan on keeping your Google Home-compatible device, it’s recommended to do a factory reset. Please refer to the product documentation to reset a Google Home-compatible device.

3. Delete the Associated Room or Home

If you continue to see your device in the Google Home app despite removing it using all the methods, you should try deleting the room or the whole Home the device is associated with.

  1. To remove a specific room, select the Settings icon.
  2. Go to Rooms and Groups.
  3. Select the room name and press Delete room > Remove.

To delete the whole Home

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Delete this Home.
  3. Delete Home.

Warning: To not lose access to all the other devices you still want to use, ensure you create another Home first and reassign each product to the new Home before deleting the old Home.
