BOE 6.15″ OLED Display with 2K Resolution Appears on Weibo

Apple’s OLED display was one of the device’s best features, and according to some reports, it’s even better than the Google Pixel 2’s OLED display. Samsung manufactured the display, and though the company has been using OLEDs since 2010 (Samsung Galaxy S), a new rumor suggests Samsung will be adopting the iPhone X’s high screen-to-body ratio of about 80-90 % in its latest flagship, the Galaxy S9. Some analytics predicted that the OLED market would bloom next year, so manufacturers like BOE have started developing a fringe screen.

A few images of BOE’s fringe screen appear on the Chinese media platform Weibo. The photos revealed the BOE fringe screen is as large as 6.18 inch, and the resolution goes up to 2k FHD+ (2,992x 1,440 pixels). The display’s PPI is 537, and brightness is 390 nit. In comparison, the iPhone X display has 458 ppi and a brightness of 634 nits.

The display is an AMOLED screen, and the cost of BOE’s 6.18-inch fringe is estimated to be cheaper than Samsung’s fringe screen. Such prices could attract many Chinese Smartphone manufacturers focusing on mid-range segment levels. Next year, many devices for mid-range and high-end smartphones will feature BOE’s 6.18-inch fringe display.
